Heads up

Hey hey

Its been long time since ive been here. But i have a reason to visit Briskoda yet again. Since i was in an accident with my Mk3 Octy and it got bought back by the dealership. Since yesterday im proud owner of Golf SV. Nice car, like how it drives and feels. But today morning Turn on the engine and whole lot of lights start flashing on the dashboard and beeping all different tones. Well got 4 error. TPMS, ESC, Autohold and parking sensor button was flashing and beeping. I was ****ed. 77km on the clock. Drove it off yesterday from the dealership. Shut down the engine, restarted it. Same thing. Took a call to Vw helpline. Guy told its okei to drive when theres only yellow warninglights. Okei took a risk and drove off. About 200 meters all lights went off and all error cleared from the Vehicle screen. Restarted engine again, works nice. No light, no peeps. Its been like -1 degrees Celsius over night here, so barely any cold. The reason why i write it here in mk3 Fabia topic is that when i visited the dealer today (Thank god they are open) and the manager told me that they have 2 MK3 fabias with same issue. Appears that problem only occurs when its cold outside. But ive been reading from other vw forums that other mk7 golf owneres have same issue and the Dealer have some software update. But worst thing is, that after it happenes theres no Fault codes left. And car runs very well after couple of meters driving. First when it happeneda at the start up the revs were low aswell and after second or so it popped back to normal. Any Fabia or that matter any other Skoda model owner experienced same issue ? If not. Fabia MK3 owneres be aware. Mine is 1.4 92kw Petrol, but as far as i know it affect both petrol and diesel models.

Edit

Video from Youtube shows the problem

Problem can varie becose for example i dont have this proactive passenger thingy or something light.

Sounds pretty crazy. Whoa there you dash lights.... ;-)

Is this the Dealer with the New Fabias as Demonstrators or do customers in Estonia already have the new cars in their possession?

Both are demo cars, but ive already seen alot on new fabias rolling around the town. Hatchbacks.

Today i decided to take a little drive. Weather is excellent. Sun is shining and minus 4 degrees. Was prepared to be seen same lights and beeps again, but nothing. Car started very well no errors what so ever. Dealer asked me to come back tomorrow, they hook it up and see whats going on. Ill keep you guys posted about issue.

Update:

Came from dealer. Thankfuly my car leaves behind error codes. Apparently Steering wheel control module gets false alarm about the low voltage what is belove the required one to operate properly. When start driving errors dissappear becose module gets info that everything is okei. Dealer told me its fixable via the software update. They sent email to vw factory for info when is the software update ready to install. Have no clue how long does it take vw to make tho.

All those warnings because the SWCM gets a false alarm? What are the programmers doing these days? Why the hell didn't the power steering warning light activate instead?  All those false messages.. what sort of attempt at an alert system is that.. Surprised it got past QA quite frankly.  If a software update is due, hope it gets to my car before it comes off the production line..

Its not doing that all the time. Its just all things line up and then boom errors and gauges doing funny things. Prolly did not do that while Quality check in factory. I suppose fix have to lower the minimum voltage for the module, and that would be it. I quess for programmers it more complicated. Will keep posted you guys for any update.

Well got call from the dealer, they did get answer from factory. Apparently vw doesnt have any fix available yet, and they have no clue when the fix will be available. So much for the new car experiense then. For others its a minor thing, but this annoyes me very much...

where's the dislike button on this forum? Any Fabia 3 owners need to petition Skoda directly to get it fixed..

I just dont get it. Other dont get it. Somes get it occasionaly, others like myself get it 75% cold starts.  I suppose its something to do with winterish weather and colder temperatures.

I'll be watching for this when I get my Mk3.

If you dont get errors and lights on dash, then rev and gas gauges are acting up on start up. Made a video. Its posted above. Also noticed that somewhere behind the light switch (or on that near area) when starting up i hear like relay going on and on doing clicking noise.

Thanks. I'll definitely check for all that when I pick it up.

You might get problems, you might not. I just came here to warn you guys what dealer told me about Fabia :)

And for that I'm certainly grateful.

I've already forwarded the video to the dealer I'm getting the Mk3 from..

Feel free to share those screenshots with the dealer aswell.

Any news from dealer ? SkodaTDI

Any news from dealer ? SkodaTDI

nothing definite, but he said if there's a genuine fault there would be a complete recall of all Mk3 vehicles to apply the fix.. it surprises me it hasn't cropped up on demonstrator vehicles yet.  I wonder how frankman is getting on in his Mk3 fabia..

Funny thing is it wont happen with all Golf MK7 or for that matter other MQB cars. Only small number of cars suffer under it. Maybe due to weather ? Since its cold here.

UPDATE

Its been a while now. Been to dealer 3 times now. 1 time they read the codes. 2 time i went back in becose factory asked dealer to hard reset (factory reset) the steering wheel module software. And last time i went becose dealer asked me to come back to get readings again. To be honest. Software reset made little bit difference. When i got the car i got rev and gas gauge problems and about 75% of cold starts ended with errors. Now i get errors and gauge problems when its belove freezing outside. But when its above freezing no errors, no nothing. Car starts as it should. Got call from dealer today. They say factory suggest to change whole steering wheel column with all modules on it. Dealer ordered the parts and next week will go to change them. Fingers crossed it will help.

Cannot think its cold in se causing the problems, its cold in Cz wintertime as well and all VAG cars are frequently tested at the Arvidsjaur motor test center wintertime at temperatures below -30*C.

A shot in the dark: Could one suspect clogged sensors, clogged with the famous 'mayo' where the watercontent would freeze below zero? Itsa a known problem on some newer EFI motorcycles.

Freezing to below -30, or -15  is little different really from freezing when it is -5*oC with H20 in components and Sensors,

Actually staying frozen is usually less problematic than Moist, Frozen, Thaw & the freeze again and there are plenty of world

regions where that happens.

Those that Built the Hillman Imp which was far ahead of its time took them around the World not stopping

them for days and weeks, fueling them and running them in all temperatures and climates.

Problem was that people in Glasgow only wanted to drive to work, park, drive home, go to the shops.

The Battery / Starter and Water Pump was not very good at that,

and they had trouble keeping Energy in the Battery & Coolant in the engine.

If there is a issue with ECU's, Software or Sensors on VWG components and engines you would imagine after decades of similar issues

they will have sussed it out be now.

This time tho no rev gauge springing, only errors. Went away again after couple of hundred meters of driving. Starting to get ****ed about the problem. New cars should not have those problems. Contacted the dealer today By email. Its holidays so everything is closed. Will keep posted and updated. Car was working fine from last friday till today morning. Starting to think to reject car and take yeti elegance.
