Arnold Clarke stickers ?

I dont know much about Arnold Clarke, but believe they are a big Scottish / Northern England dealer / lease company (?) being based in the south west but when I head up north I always notices the cars with big yellow stickers on the back.

Some of these are 'nice' cars that I'd thought people have brought because of looks and would take pride in them - just wondering why they then leave the big gopping yellow sticker on the back window - is it part of the lease or hp deal or something!?

Guess that's the problem being 'big' - Vospers is our biggest dealer round here I can think of and they seem to sell everything now but don't have the yellow stickers.

Just thought there maybe an Arnold Clark forum, social meets, etc and do owners flash each other !

I dislike stickers to the point, I removed the dealer one when I collected my new Octy in 2011 and asked for it to be binned. The only thing my car is a rolling advert for is Briskoda!  :cocktail:

Halfords do that sticky stuff remover for those damn stickers though.

I've not even put my national trust membership sticker in the vrs !!! lol

I know that when Arnold Clark bought the Lexus dealership in Bradford in 2002 Lexus ha took the franchise off them the next day and sought another premises and set up that dealership up themselves because as the salesman told me they have a bad reputation and Lexus did not want theirs tarnished

They are a vehicle renting company too so maybe thats why you see a lot of cars with the bright yellow stickers on them.... In fact i didn't even know they were a dealership till i read this.... They are just a hire car place around this neck of the woods.

Maybe but I was doing a job in Irvine, west of Glasgow and went into fairly full Tesco car park there and recall virtually every other car had an Arnold Clark sticker on it - must be some owned or longer leased I'd have thought.

If there was still a Monopolies Commission then there might have been enquires into the Arnold Clark Automobiles Monopoly of Scottish New & Used car trade, and how the Used Car Industry prices are distorted by the Arnold Clark Monopoly.

They cover near every Brand now, and the Training of various Trades in the Motor Industry.

No shortage of outlets, dealerships, car supermarkets, premium brand dealerships.  Finance Facilities.

Not all have the 'Arnold Clark' name obvious above the door.

I don't see many of them round here but when we went on holiday in Loch Lomond a few years ago we saw loads of them. Wouldn't buy a car off them though, they'll be a bit like Carcraft, and we had a 14 month battle with them to return a Passat that they sold us.

Crikey ! Be like war of the worlds soon, maybe they'll get the flu and we'll all be saved

Just noticed some on another (rock climbing) forum talking about this - and saying its a bit of pride for Glasgow as Arnold Clark is from glasgow (like having a flag or something!) not so sure about that. But also they noted not many skodas with AC stickers - us being a resourceful bunch and all that

The problem with stickers is once you see one, you see them all and then can't unsee them !

Arthur Thompson was also from Glasgow and some looked up to him.

Forget the Stickers, tens of thousands do remove them, you are seeing the tip of the iceberg with them still on.

Some of the most sticky Dealer stickers you will ever come across.

Often applied on the wrong place.

Number Plates as well, on squint.

I remember when Dixon motor group bought up virtually all of the dealerships around here (or so it seemed) then went spectacularly bust. Not suggesting for a moment that the same will happen to Arnold Clark, but I'm always suspicious of any company that grows very big very quickly, not least in the motor trade.

How much of that expansion has been in the past decade? Dixon Motors was going for around 40 years if I remember correctly. Paul Dixon worked for my old boss, came into work one Monday and handed in his notice saying his was bored of his job and was 'going to have a go at buying and selling cars'. The rest is history, and he had the sense to sell up well before it went belly up.

Aye, it's a ridiculous situation. To be fair I had no complaints about the VW dealership in Merrylee (south Glasgow) I used for a number of years, but in Glasgow you don't even get a choice now if you have a VW since Arnold took over Verve.
