So what happens next?

Recommended Posts

I am waiting on delivery of my new Fabia est, so was told last week by the dealer that my car is now in the UK at the port, but he said he can't tell me when it will be here.

So just wondered if anyone knows how long it normally takes to get from the port to the dealers?

Sorry if this maybe a silly question, I've not ever had a new car before.

Thanks

Enjoy the new car when it comes.

Hopefully others can tell you of their recent experiences.

It is a shame that the Car Sales Person you are dealing with is rather crap.

Please be sure to tell the Senior Sales Executive & the Dealer Principal how you were left hanging and needing to

ask online.

Also when Skoda UK Customer Services call or send a Survey tell them.

Sales & After Care at Skoda Franchised Dealers are terrible quite often,

yet Skoda lose the likes of Preston Motors that were there providing very good customer services.

Hopefull some of the minions of Alasdair Stewart Brand Director Skoda UK are reading this forum and can get their

Outlets sorted out.

Thanks

This is the last email I got from him last week...

Car has arrived in the UK, I have requested a reg number...we are at the mercy of transport companies delivering it to us now.

To be honest IMO they have been pretty rubbish with their communication, they soon want your money though :(

Thanks

Les

EDIT: sorry, What does PID'd mean?

My car was with the dealer about a week after it arrived in the UK.

BossFox means PDI - Pre-Delivery Inspection. The dealer will or should go over the car with a fine toothed comb and do things like attach the number plates.

PDI,  Pre Delivery Inspection.

Car made ready for Delivery,

Fuel in, driven a little bit, all proper and correct.  All the Bits and pieces are there, Spare, Tool KIt,

Tyre Pressures, Oil Level, Transportation Blocks removed, Hand Over documents with Sales Staff.

Only not always a Technician doing it.

Or some of the bigger places have dedicated PDI centres

I think my dealer must be reading this site, I just had a call from them, they say the car is in transit to them now, and they are saying they should be able to hand over the car by the 22nd and no later than the 29th :)

Indeed some do read Briskoda.

& some at Skoda HQ Milton Keynes.

They even say,

'Do not listen to Briskoda, it is overblown on there'.

Maybe Alasdair Stewarts team would like to give something back to members in the Fabia 2 & 3 Section for doing their work for them at times, and saving them more bad publicity.

Some Freebies to Santa Pod on the 16th May for the 5th Birthday Gathering of Mk2 Fabia vRS Twinchargers would be nice.

100 Stickers to Celebrate the Car 2010- 2015 would be lovely.

Send along a Skoda R5 Rally car for us to see as well please.

It shouldn't take 7 days to hand over a car.. as soon as the car arrives with them and get down there and sort out your finance stuff if that's what you're doing.. then it should only take a couple of days to get everything ready for you..

my Fabia turned up at the dealer on a Friday afternoon.. I signed the finance bits Saturday morning, had a look over the car sat outside with its wrap on,  collected the car Monday evening ( I insisted I wanted it as soon as possible ) - job done.. be nice.. but forceful..

i wonder if its one of the masses of Skodas sitting at Ebbsfleet station.

There appears to be about 60-70 Skoda all brand new unregistered  in an unlocked public car park at ebbsfleet railway station.  Bet the new owners don;t know that, I'll get some pics tomorrow, but plenty of varities there including VRS

If they check the tyre pressures at PDI then I would second check them. Checked all 4 of my tyres the day I got my car and they were 22, 31, 38 and 41 PSI, none matched what an interesting combo, TPM didn't pick it up either, so glad I checked them myself lol

The TPMS can not pick up unless someone sets it when the tyres at the chosen pressure.

& if somebody sets it with odd pressures it is happy with that.

Be sure to let the Workshop Manager & Dealer Principal the car was handed over unsafe.

That then would have me checking the Torque the Wheel Bolts are set at,

because they are not doing anything like a proper PDI.

It'll be built, Joe. Have you asked your dealer where it is?

Have an update from dealer

I have checked and your car is built and in transit. It is currently at Emden Germany waiting to come across I would like to think it will be here this month but until we hear from the transport people I cannot fix any dates. As I hear from them I will let you know.

Received an email from Skoda today 20/4/15 that my new fabia is on its way to my dealers does that mean its at the port in Germany or bobbing up and down on a ship or has landed in UK. Suspect there info is catching up with dealers e-mail so will not start to hold breath. I could manage a couple of days, a couple of weeks may be not for reasons of health and safety :) Joe

It means your car is in the UK and is on a road transporter enroute to your dealer showroom, bit of luck and you may get it by the end of the week :)

Will let you know when it turns up thanks for the info

PDI,  Pre Delivery Inspection.

I used to assist with PDIs on new and used Ford cars back in the 1980s. It was laughable how cursory it all was. And if the main guy in charge of the PDI was in a bad mood, or it was Friday afternoon, or he simply couldn't be bothered, he'd just tick the boxes on the PDI form without checking the relevant things on the car. I seem to remember that wheel bolts/nuts were never overlooked, however they were never actually torqued - we just used a breaker bar to see if they were tight. I remember at the time there was a problem with faulty cooling fan connector plugs on the newly released MK3 Escort (which in-house was known as Project Erika) and we just used to get the engine up to temp and wiggle the plug until the fan came on and leave it at that  :D

We had a stock of new cars in a compound and when moving them for PDI, some of the lads used to wheel-spin them on a gravel surface which sometimes caused stone chips. They really didn't give a ****.

I can remember number plates being mixed up and fitted to the wrong cars.

In the case of MK1 Fiestas, the tailgate had to be drilled for self-tapping screws to hold the plate on and sometimes the plate would end up wonky or the holes drilled too big, so the screw wouldn't bite. They would just be left like that.

The bodies of new cars back then used to be sprayed in wax at the factory to protect them as they used to stand in compounds. One of my jobs was using a pressure washer with special chemicals to remove the wax. I remember once getting bollocked because the pressure washer suddenly cut out and the lance dropped and scratched the roof of a new car. It had to go to the body shop to be repaired. I bet the new owner knew nothing of it :D

In those days there was a massive rush to get loads of vehicles out for August 1st and sometimes people just did the bare minimum or couldn't be bothered. I hope things are better these days :p

One of my dad's friends has a '13 TT, and they didn't remove the plastic blocks from the suspension. This predictably caused all sorts of issues with the suspension, and on repairing that, they mis-seated a drive shaft which then damaged something to do with the gearbox (I'm not sure how the Haldex system on those cars works!). They offered to buy back the car, but he really likes it apart from these issues, and they don't make a diesel with Quattro any more on the new shape TT.

I did check tyre pressures and for the presence of those blocks on my Fabia, just in case! But the garage seemed to have done the PDI properly, which is good.
