fabia advice two tone car

Featured Replies

Hi

posted in wrong fabia section.

Daughter after first car, and likes the cars with black roof and grill, are these all monte carlo range? has the pointy headlamps she says.

As some monte carlos advertised are solid colour.

After 1.2 as be first car, she wants sporty look without the power.

any advice appreciated after a used fabia, that's probably already had the depreciation hit, she wants it not to be as basic inside as some models.

I need to double check insurance as fabia sport was cheaper than a citigo, but sounds as if monte carlo more than a sport.

What would be a fair price for a 61,62 plate  straight car no mod cons with fsh.

Is there any common problems to look for in these cars.

Private prices seem to be same as dealer prices atm, suppose asking price is different to selling price.

I presume you're on about the 1.2 tsi then?

The black pack is only available on the Monte Carlo and the later VRS's.

What year monte is she looking at? Early 1.2 (2010 sort of time) TSI's can have dodgey camchains Tensioners, youll hear a rattle on start up.

The 1.2 tsi is available in 86 and 105bhp, both exactly the same engine just with a different map. Some people have had their 105's dyno'd, completely standard and found them to actually be putting out more like 120bhp. Food for thought maybe.

Other than that, take a test drive and make sure its not pulling to the left. Some have had alignment problems which can be troublesome to sort.

Someone can maybe confirm.

Are all Solid Colours. (not Metallic) White, Red, Black,  But have Black Roofs.  (Yellow , Grey ??)

Blue colour Tech Estates?? No Idea about that.

& someone can maybe cover the differences, Monte Carlo, Monte Carlo Tech, Monte Carlo Black Edition in Black or White.

I have the Monte Carlo tech in red. (Black roof) The difference between the tech and standard monte is the tech has maxi dot trip computer / mfd and Amundsen + sat nav / touch screen console. I think the tech version started to come through in 2012. Not sure about the tech black model they may have extras on top of that. A 62p tech with 10,000 miles 1.2 tsi will b around £8000. IMHO.

All Monte Carlos have black roof, wheels and body mouldings and early ones could be had with 1.2 HTP and 75 BHP Diesel engines so beware and stay clear.

All Monte Carlo Techs could be had in either red or white bodywork and only came with 105 BHP TSI and TDI engines so anything other than these engines aren't Techs again beware.

Black Editions are basically the same as the Techs but could only be had in black or white and have exactly the same spec as the Tech other than heated front seats, these could only be had on the Black Edition.

Hope this helps, I may have missed one or two other points but all Techs and Black Editions should have Amundsen sat nav, Bluetooth and Maxidot, if they haven't then they aren't what they say they are.

Thanks everyone, so what is the best engine to go for whats had the least problems. So have to stay away from 75bhp.

Colour wise its white, or maybe yellow but think the yellow would be a awkward colour to resell.

For some reason insurance quotes don't seem to  be much different between diesel and the 1.2 petrol, which I thought was strange.

Price and yr was originally looking 59 plate to get car that's already had a good depreciation hit but daughter seems to keep seeing cars newer models.

All depends if theres a better buy that comes along can stretch budget.

Not in desperate hurry, but daughter would say different, wonder if more choice might be able closer to September.

I doubt you'd be able to get a 59 plate Monte, I'm sure they weren't introduced until 2011, as for insurance, the diesel and petrol have similar power outputs so premiums should be similar too.

The yellow is very rare, the most common colours being red, white then black.

75 BHP diesels aren't popular and neither are the 1.2 HTPs and were dropped pretty early on as they were relatively slow compared to the higher powered petrols and diesels.

Depends what you're after.

HTP's arent fast, but bulletproof, simple engine. If you're looking to keep long term, its a much better bet than a TSI IMO.

Personally I would opt for the 105bhp tsi if doing under 10k miles or so a year. If doing more and mainly miles where the engine will heat up (I.e longer motorway runs) I would go for the 1.6 tdi 105 bhp.

6 weeks ago I was asking myself similar questions. I went from a 100bhp 1.9 tdi mk 1 Fabia and replaced it with a monte I didn't want anything less powerful as overtaking would be limited (my old 1.2 80bhp corsa was terrible). That said as the monte was for my wife, who only does city short journeys, I decided on the 1.2 tsi in 105bhp. It's def quicker than our old fabia tdi with almost the same bhp.

Fuel consumption not as great but that as I expected being a petrol, plus it's a small price to pay if it avoids Possbile worst case scenario with the dpf (which has been know issue for city driven only deisels in the past)

interesting if it was me I driving I do around 20k a year , but it be daughters car and she just be going on short trips, that why I first thought petrol. As diesels like a blast down motorway as me granddad used to say.

So what engine had the least problems? were there recalls on some

I just need a good solid reliable car  for her she not bothered about whats under the hood , going more on looks, but same token don't want to buy her a lemon.

will have to go newer i didn' realise they didn't  come out until 2011 as definite has to be two tone.

The TSI is a good engine. Lovely to drive, and tbf youll struggle to find a monte with the HTP anyway.

I just said what i said due to the nature of forced induction. More complicated, more stress on the engine by nature. But the 1.2 tsi is good.

Id probably go by the rest of the car, service history etc before choosing an 86 or 105bhp.

Yeah dont bother with a diesel now if shes doing short trips. Diesels these days are best kept to the mile munchers amongst us. They've got filters in which block up with soot if the engine doesnt get to a high enough temperature often enough.

I thought htp was in cars around 59plate and if monte carlo didn't come out till 2011 there wont be any.

Just after a good straight car No modifications, we all know what insurance companies are like with fsh. Just don't want to choose the engine that was underpowered,

would you say best going to a skoda dealer and trying to barter or look private.

Are these all on chains the engines Petrol,

I need to know if go to a dealer need to think I know what im talking about, so he cant bullshixx me cos im a girl.

Dealer told me other day fabia safer than citigo in a crash get citigo get 5star safety rating.

Most salesmen just talk crap

No the HTP has been around since 2002 in the polo, ibiza, fabia etc and was running right to the end of the mk2 line, so up until 2014. My 2013 has the 70bhp engine in, i live in hilly Derbyshire and its not bad at all. Never have to thrash it, and i get past more cars safely than youd think.

The HTP isnt fast, but third gear overtakes are better than youd think. The later models sit at 70mph at 3k revs, so thats not tiring. Its just a no thrills, reliable engine that just does what it says on the tin. Theres a few with 150k miles on and still going nicely.

The TSI is abit more complicated. Its a lovely engine to drive, matches the fuel economy of the HTP but gives abit more power, its quieter and pulls well from low down. Its basically a 4pot petrol with a little turbo bolted on. All engines are going that way now, because of emissions.

Theyre both chain drive, so listen for any rattles on a cold start up, especially on a TSI.

most salesman do talk crap, take it with a pinch of salt. The fabia gets 4 stars ncap i think.

But there were ones with the 60ps or so engines.

Motorshow or Media cars and they were sold and resold.

About 4 of them in the UK i think.  So watch if buying one of the first Monte Carlos Registered in the UK you do not land with one unless

you want one.

Ah i didnt realise they were the 60.

Never driven a 60 myself.

Id opt for the tsi 86 over the 60hp htp, personally.

So if you were after a used fabia monte carlo, wanting to use for only small journeys not really motorway, what would you go for in the models

htp, and tsi  preferably bhp

This will be daughters first car and want to have around 4 years so trying to get purchase right first time. The car is for practicality, has a small child now, so just easier for her to get to a-b, but still wants the looks of a car without feeling shes in granddads car. :dull:

Was there any recalls on the chains, can you actually do a test on them. sorry to be a pain just like to find out as much before the event if possible

I feel if I pretend to know me stuff to a delear will hear less crap, thinking wether to hold off till new registration more choice of cars probably bring price down, who knows.

If I buy a early model is that the one which had the most pitfalls.

sorry typo there.

69ps.  1.2 12v
