Octavia rear differential failure

Hi, I was wondering if anybody has had their rear diff fail. We have a 2010 scout with 100K on the clock. We haven't towed anything heavier than a small trailor, but the diff has gone. This should last the life of the car. Any similar experinces? Regards Alan

I remember seeing the odd one on here with rear diff failure, but few and far between. What caused yours to fail and how did it show the failure?

Yes, the rear diff on my 2010 Octavia II 1.8TSI 4X4 failed last year at under 20,000 miles. It developed an oil leak through a breather hole during a journey and seized within circa 20 miles. Initial symptoms were the occasional isolated loud bang from under the car when cruising at 70mph. Fortunately I had an aftermarket warranty which paid for the complete rear transmission to be replaced. The cost to them was over £3000.

Same as any mechanical part they can and do fail.
