Haldex oil change frequency

Featured Replies

Just had the Yeti serviced ( 2 years old 40k miles) and asked when I should be having the Haldex fluid changed. Dealer said next year, time based not mileage based. Seems strange to me, anyone know if this is correct?

I know there have been many threads about Haldex but I don't remember reading a definitive answer to this.

Thanks.

My handbook says Every 60000km which is not far off 40000miles. I haven't seen anything else to say otherwise.

Thanks Anzio, I did check the manual but must have missed that reference.

I remember from another thread that 35000 miles was mentioned as the trigger point but couldn't find the thread, and don't know what that was based on.

Thank again,

Steve

My May'12 manual says Haldex oil to be changed every three years - no mention of distance. I thought I'd read somewhere about it being every four years but I can't find where! It was done last month, along with the first brake fluid change (which is done every two years after the first time).

Thanks for your help dbg400. I will leave mine until next year then as advised by the dealer.

Steve.

Mine was done at 3 years.

Graham was this done irrespective of mileage?

Tony

how much does it cost?

how much does it cost?

I was quoted £65 but the receipt has it as £62 (£31.28+VAT for the work and £20.38+VAT for the oil).

Mine was 'on the shelf' for the first 25 months and I suspect, with fixed price servicing, I'll be told it won't be done till 5 years after manufacture in order to avoid absorbing the cost........not that they will put it that way.......just not needed as, at 30,000km and 16 months driving, too early. (?)

Hmmm, in that case time isn't a factor?

Then there's the cam belt.......when does its 'life' commence?

I asked about servicing all I got was "has the service light come on"

After saying how I was nervous about leaving it until then, I was quoted

45,500 miles (it is just coming up to 40,000)

60000 kms.

It does not seem to be on the yeti service protocol, not in the UK nor on the continent or elsewhere.

After trying to convince my garage it has to be done, they found a reference to it somewhere, but it seems to be overlooked.

They had no idea how to approach it (!!) and I showed them what to do once it was up on the lift.

It is a very simple procedure, really.I learned how as it was explained in detail here in this forum somewhere.Just a couple of screws, bottom one for draining, top for filling.Very easy to get to. I got a litre plastic bottle of Haldex oil, the reservoir accepts around 600 cc only.Used oil pours out rather clear, but with a mucky grayish blob at the bottom.

62 GBP seems like a reasonable sum, though after understanding it is such a simple procedure, ill do it myself next time.

Good luck.
