cave engine oil test result

Recommended Posts

Just got back from the dealers after doing circa 190 miles from the start of the test, because the first sat appointment was 4 weeks after when it started ive only been doing 2 mile short trips to work and the odd 20 mile trip to shops etc, so i don't think it was a fair representation of what it uses normally.

From what they have said it passed it's test but I'm having the breather mod and oil squirters replaced, i think it failed but they only stated how many grams over its used, its not been converted into the liter/per x miles

Can anyone understand this engineer's report?

I can understand they are saying it used above the norm, according to etc etc.

Well ask the straight question of them. (or no need to, the work is getting done.)

If Skoda says that 'May use as much as 0.5 litres per 1000 km (621 miles.)

& 1 litre of oil weighs 857 grams.

are you saying that it was OK if it used 428.5 Grams over 1000 km,

But since it used more than the norm by the figures they have to go by,

they are accepting it uses too much oil.

(The norm is what most of us use, over the norm or average might not require a consumption test.

Their test is about using excessive amounts of oil, and the higher consumption rate, but above that even.)

All nonsense from me.

The Test was not Long Enough.  ie not enough miles covered.

But more so from them.

You are getting the Breather Mod, and Oil Spray Jets so they are accepting the engine is faulty,

or has a Fundamental Design or Components Fitted.

That is a result.

& if after the work it still uses too much oil, fouls the plug or any such issue,

The Warranty will need to cover resolving the issues still, or in this case Skoda Will.

Cheers, wasnt sure how many grams a litre of oil weighed so i can work it out to see how much its actually used!

quick calculation that its used 400ml for 190 miles of driving, thats the worse ive ever seen it!

There are all kinds of results from different Technicians, and reports and obvious errors in lots.

But if the Engine was Empty of Oil, and a New Filter went in & 3.6 Litres of Oil. (3.6 x 857 grams = 3,085.2 grams)

and you run the engine driving for 10 minutes,

then after 10 minutes drop the oil you might get out 3.2 litres.  ( so 3.2 litres x 857 grams = 2742.4 grams)

**********************************

Funnily the test results given in your report has 2742 Grams as the drained weight.

Many reports manage to show that figure, but oddly so many get that all wrong.

**********************************

Pour it back in.

Some, just an ickle bit is in the container, bound to be.  tiny amount.

So if you drive 1000 km (621 miles) and drop the Oil and you get out

2.7 litres,

 it shows you have used 0.5 litres  (2.7 x 857 grams = 2313.9.)

  2,742.4 grams start weight

-2,313.9 grams after test weight

=422.5 grams.       857 grams divided by 2 =  428.5 grams.

But they are not having the car cover 1,000 km,  or 2,000 km.

Just 1/3rd or less of 1000 km, & then Multiplying, and equating.

And getting false results, and the ickle amounts of oil not out the engine or in the container,

means its all a load of nonsense.

They should never being using near 1 litre of Oil (857 Grams) in 1,241 Miles driving a Solo Car in the UK

at NSL's in any season of the year.

(the vRS can not tow, is unlikely to be crossing high mountain passes in high temperatures or the likes during an oil

consumption test. So 'May use as much as, should not even enter what might be 'the norm'.)

'wesleyuk'

posted in the Squirters thread that the Official Test had his engine using 1.3 litres in 1,000 km

the dealer is ordering in parts for doing the Breather & Oil Spray Jets.

This is the one i like best.

Report done,

just the weights all wrong.

& the Dealership had the cheek to want to charge the member for the test since it was a pass.

The member shortly after had a new engine fitted under Warranty.

I have done 1500 kms since my oil jets and software update were done on mine(CTHE). All good so far with no noticeable oil use. My exhaust tips and rear hatch are much cleaner than before. Get it done and enjoy!!

  • 3 weeks later...

So im a little bit annoyed, had the car booked in for next week to get the engine work done, went back into the dealer to ask about some other stuff to be told there not sure the bulletin they got is right as my engine number doesn't match up and they've had to go back to SUK to check.

I went to ask them about the 3 year minor service, whether they could charge me for the bits over and above the oil and filter change (as i thought they would change the oil and filter when they have the engine apart), and as its due a service in sept and seems daft not doing it at the same time since half the car will be apart, was told definitely not (as they can only charge for the full service), was then told as the oil and filter was changed at the start of the oil test it wouldnt be changed again when the oil jets are replaced, which personally i don't think is right.

also as some of you know i've bought new yellow stuff pads and brake fluid to do, asked them how much their labour charge would be.... £130 to do both, i thought since they would have the car apart it would be easy to do, (therefore cheaper) not nearly a 2 hour job.

Now i'm thinking do i get the 3rd service done at another dealer, or do i get an independant VAG specialist to do it, as i'm also going to pursue SUK for an extension of my warranty on my engine as i wont know if this has fixed the issue till my current one has expired.

Suggestions please!

I would suggest you have your Brake Pads Changed & Brake Fluid Changed at a Independent that does VW Cars.

Or a Briskoda Member that knows what they are doing and you could pay.

Let Skoda UK pay for the Oil Spray Jets & the New Oil & Filter & ECU Update & Road Test and extending the Warranty,

and see all that is done OK.

Get a service done later as required,

because it is by Service Schedule Guidelines, and if a new oil & filter is in then this is on the Computer System,

and the Oil & Filter on Fixed Servicing is for 9,400 miles if they put in VW 502 00 oil.

A Minor Service is just a Oil & Filter and check Fluids and Body Inspection anyway,

If Skoda UK says you must stick to Annual on the Oil Change and change it in September they are due you this for the expense

you already have paid, because of their Fundamental Design & Manufacturing faults.
