Removing coil packs how difficult?

Recommended Posts

2015 Octavia Ambition 1.4 tsi 103, how difficult is it to remove coil packs in order to replace plugs. There is a vw tool but this is unavailable to order from the dealer. Will a good pull do?

Regards

Roger

Thanks for your replies.

I intend this car to be a keeper, 10 years, 300k kms and after the warranty runs out I do my own servicing as I have done with all my cars over the last 50 years. I am at 15k kms now so the plugs will require changing next year at 60k kms so I am just preparing early if you like. Never had trouble with the boots on my other cars before but the workshop manual does specify a special tool.

Very pleased with the car so far.

Regards

Roger

Ah!  Makes sense now.

You'll want to do the fuel filter too (it's conveniently left out of the Service Schedule last time I looked).

IIRC, the air filter is something stupid like 90,000km - bring that forward to either 45k or 60k.

If you have DSG it's supposed to be 60k but if it's a keeper then do it at 45k.

Manual trans is supposed to be sealed for life but I'd be aiming at somewhere between 60k-90k.

I'd also consider fitting an aftermarket catch can to reduce the likelihood of build up of oily / carbony sludge on the inlets.

If its the letter generation tsi engine the coil packs are bolted down...

That's what I understand too.  A good pull will not be enough.  This is in Spanish, but you should get the idea:
