K&N Filter for vRS/GTI?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Anyone here have a K&N filter fitted to their vRS? I presume the filter is the same as the Polo GTI one?

If so was it an improvement?

Best not go for a K&N replacement filter with a 1.4 TSI 132-136 kw Twincharger unless you are concerned about getting the filter wet,

it will not help your engine breath better or improve performance.

Used the VWR replacement filter before . Very small gain but compared to the price of a proper cold air intake upgrade it is worthwhile until you get a tune done and then you should upgrade again.

I've got a itg maxogen induction kit for sale, if your interested

Yep that's the one I had....gives a bit better induction sound.

Do you know anywhere I can get one for a good price?

Being VWR they think they can charge a premium.

You can buy it from awesomegti new or wait until one pops up second hand which is what I did from my Cold Air Intake and got it for almost half the retail price.

Is this filter oil based?

They are just Foam style filters,

not like Coated K&N (re-treat with correct treatment rubbish filters)

Maybe best first get the engine running correctly and not using Oil before messing and spending on Induction or Filters.

So latest Breather Pipes fitted, Squirters, MAP etc.

What he said. They use the original VW plastic part of the filter minus the paper element so direct swap.

The filter is something I'm thinking of doing around service time in December so hopefully the oil issue would have been sorted. Im not going to worry too much about an induction kit for now.

Pretty much what I did. Just changed the air filter until I got the breather valve mod done at my first service done. After that oil use was normal. Then I started modifying properly.

Do you have the CAVE engine? I guess the breather mod was all you needed for the oil use to become normal?

Yes I have one of the last CAVE engines. Was borderline replacement until breather valve mod. Now its fine even with a stage 2 map.

In the end I decided it was better to keep the original engine as at latest I know where it has been rather then to push for a replacement. Of course thankfully the mod worked for me. However every engine is different so it pays to check your oil regular. Still have a few more things to try to improve on the factory spec engine.

Pipercross do a filter like this for our cars too and it's about £40-50. Can't imagine it's much/any different to the VWR one

They do one that looks similar to the VWR one for £59.99. Still debating on whether to get one or not..... :D

What I would really like to get is a nice stainless steel exhaust system (Cobra, Scorpion, etc) but the misses would kill me!

Have a look on Page 2 at the Air Filter threads from last week.

You are as well with the Standard Filter or get a Induction Filter that does give improvement the Revo/VWR will do little to improve performance

other than cost you money. (actually give no improvement IME.)
