That's my update from Rockingham.

Every panel on nearside and both wheels damaged.

I couldn't believe that happened. You dealt with it surprisingly well. I took out insurance for my first ever track day, but since then I have been confident to carry on without it. I guess it all depends on who else is on track on the day as you've sadly found out.

Out of interest though I wonder if the insurance company would cover that kind of damage on a mk1 Fabia for instance. That's almost as much as the car's worth..

Was thinking the same, would they cough up that sort of money for a 13 year old MK1 Octy VRS :dull:

I would hope many of the similar write off rules applied to road cars wouldn't apply to trackday cover, but I am not in any way knowledgeable about that.  It is just hope.

glad its sorted mate!

Which company did you use for your track day insurance and how much was it.

Many thanks.

Quite a saving over footing the bill yourself in full! :-)

Still £1k I would be really keen to see the perpetrator pay, even if technically there is no real liability.  :(

As stated no liability for them to pay. Not received anything never will.

Looking at the Morris website it seems their excess is a different setup to normal road insurance. It appears if the damage totals more than £800 then they cover the whole amount (zero excess to actually pay) but if it's less than £800 damage you pay that yourself. Seems a good deal! Hopefully it only cost wookiee the £125 fee to claim?

Oh wow now that would be good.

Just read the policy again. I think your right! Excess has a different meaning on this policy.

Happy is not a word big enough! :)

Will update when confirmed and paid.

Hmmm, more reading may only apply if you have insured the excess also.

Don't think I did.

Arse.

Oh damnit! I'd assumed the "franchise excess" applied to the whole policy. The wording is definitely not clear! Don't know why they say about not covering claims below the excess as you'd not bother claiming for this amount in the first place lol. The photo above of the invoice says "less excess £0" so hat also made me think you weren't having to pay it :-(

Can you let us know the outcome on this and what Morris have to say about the excess situation?

  • Author

Will do.

The invoice is direct from the garage to me.

I then deal with the loss adjuster who will help settle the claim with whoever underwrites the insurance, hence no mention of excess garage just deal with me as a private customer not an 'insurance job'

Payout is direct to me. Plus or minus the excess, with I am expecting them to deduct from the payment.

Whatever happens will be posted here as its all good experience.

Felt really gutted for you - this kind of thing shouldn't happen if everyone obeys the briefing. Glad it's finally almost sorted and that the car wasn't a write off.

I am thinking about e-mailing the ATDO about incidents with car to car contact on trackdays - do you still have the video? Also interested to know if the other driver was allowed to continue their day or if the organisers removed their wristband.

This is the one thing that makes me a be unsure about track days. I'm fairly confident about my own (limited) skills to keep myself and others safe, however I can't say the same about others.

Generally I spend more time looking in my mirror and judging the next spot I will be overtaken than I do trying to go quickly.

Like said above if everyone obeys the briefing then it doesn't really happen.

Yeah still got the video, not a lot to see as its out the front window, with a rear cam the truth of the manoeuvre would be clear.

Not sure 'fault' matters - certainly no liability involved on track.

They did not continue with the day, think they were told not to.

They were told not to, I heard the chap telling them. Not that it counts for much especially that later on in the day :(

With all the gravel they collected throughout the day their garden must look nice now :D  :D
