Fabia II VRS estate suspension modifications ... H&R springs or AP coilovers

Featured Replies

Hi ... been playing around with this idea and been saving up for doing this and I ordered some H&R springs from Awesome GTi the other day.

I was quite happy with my purchase, they told me they'll have them in stock within 7 days and then I could arrange fitting etc. But ... they also said that fitting the H&R springs on the estate raises the back end even higher while lowering the front. This sowed a seed of doubt in my mind ...

The other option is fitting coilovers ... I've got some AP coilovers on my TT and they are fine, took some fiddling and slight modification to get them right so I thought I could fit these to the Fabia but I'm worried about it being a little crashy and over rough surfaces - Sheffield's roads!

Awesome suggested ST X coilover but these are a little pricey and I didn't want to spend that kind of money so I've ruled those out.

So ... it's either AP coilovers or H&R springs!

Has anyone fitted AP coilovers to their Fabia and what are they like?

Has anyone fitted H&R springs to their estate and does it raise it at the back end?

Thanks for your help in advance ...

Phil

Look at the Build Thread by mmmRacer & his vRS Estate (Australian Member)

The tail high stance on the estate is pretty good for the front traction. IMO/

The estate comes as standard with stronger rear springs than the hatch being longer

(supposedly lighter though.)

& this estate.

Just my opinion, but unless you are going to the track with the car often, coilovers just seen a bit overkill and expensive.

I don't have the estate version but I haven't come across anything saying the rear increased in height, I could well be wrong though.

I have the h&r springs on my vrs hatch and have been really impressed with them. Ride height is great, much firmer ride but less crashy compared to stock.

shouldn't raise the back end?! they are lowering springs!!!! I have eibachs on mine..... lower 20mm at the front and LOWER 15 mm at the back.... yes that gives a 5 mm difference to standard (If thats what you meant) but that isn't bad at all!

see what it translates to with some cornering forces applied! :o

I'm shocked awesome GTI would alledgedly spout such garbage :-(

The H+R lower front AND rear on the vRS estate. 35mm drop on front, 30mm on rear:-)

Yep ... checked with them again yesterday, they say that they only sell one set of H & R springs which fit the estate and hatchback which will lower the front 40mm on the estate and the back will stay is as or be slightly higher. Think I might be buying my springs else where, hopefully from someone who knows what they are selling unlike Awesome GTI ... bit disappointed in them really.

Can anyone recommend where to buy, thought DP Performance or Larkspeed ...?

DP performance have some really good prices, and they are sponsors here, I would try them... awesome are usually good, i bought some stuff from them recently, but they are still talking crap by saying they wont lower the rear...

I got my eibachs from an international seller on eBay, they were about £128 delivered.

Emailed Awesome over the weekend about the H&R springs and they say ...

however I do know that the part number H&R Have in their Catalogue and TecDoc systems for the VRs Estate is 29073-6 which we removed from our website on account of the issues we have had on two cars in the past.  The last two of these that we did, we had to send back for a refund and return the customers cars to stock, which wasted a load of time and money on our part. The rear of the car with the springs fitted was higher on both occasions than when the vehicle came to us, even after both customers had run their cars around for a week hoping for it to settle. When we approached H&R about the issue, they checked the fitment, kit numbers and individual spring numbers and said that they were all correct, so at this point, we do not trust that particular spring kit. Maybe we are being a little over cautious and there’s every chance that it could be a batch issue which has now been resolved, however due to the way H&R dealt with the issue and passed it off as ‘Not a problem’ our confidence is low with these. If you’re happy to take the risk, then we have no problem in ordering up a set of 29073-6 springs, however should the worst happen (like it has twice before), we simply don’t wish to be liable.

Based on this information I don't think I'll be getting the springs from them. How come nobody else has had this problem ...?

mine and genepoolrejects car above are on eibachs.... maybe there IS a problem with the H&R springs?

Maybe go eibach ? or something else? an ST suspension kit etc ?

This sounds weird. No issue at all on our H+R sprung estate! The rear certainly was lowered. Very strange.

I have Eibachs for the Estate for sale. Just as soon as I sort my FREEDOM out again. Did about 10k if that
