Remap Options Fabia VRS

Can anyone recommend a good, safe remap for a 2012 Fabia VRS?

I have called Shark to see if they offer a map after hearing good things about them but have been told they no longer offer a remap for the VRS as the engine isn't strong enough - not sure what is meant by this as they still offer remaps on the Polo 1.4tsi which as far as I know has the same engine.

Does this mean any remap on the Fabia is unsafe and it should be left alone or have people got along fine with other remaps?

I would quite like the ability to be able to switch back to the standard map if possible (which is why I looked to Shark with their STS) - as far as I can see the only other company offering this is Bluefin - has anyone got any experience with a bluefin map?

Or is there anywhere else I should be looking?

Thanks

Spoke with shark a while ago and they were still doing them? Was it one of their retailers you spoke to or actually shark?

Bluefin isn't the map, just the handheld system. The map is super chips. I had one on my corsa vxr. In general they are ok. Although imo you will get better results from a brand specialist (vag specialist in this case).

No, that is pure nonsense. The engine - as long as you know it's a good one - can be mapped fine even much above stage 2. Plenty of stage 1 that are running without issues. It's just that some tuners had early failures with them and didn't bother looking into why or re-working their files so they gave up on them completely. It's more a location question. I am not in the UK so I can't recommend smaller UK tuners - others will be able to do so surely. There's always the big names like APR which might be a bit more expensive but offer goodies like map selection on the go etc.

It was Shark HQ at Mansfield I spoke to when told they no longer offer a remap for the Fabia.

Thanks - I will have a look at APR too.

Also found that Revo now offer a device to switch  between standard and mapped so that may be an option as well

The OP does not say if it is a 2012 with a CAVE engine or one of the first CTHE engines. (ECU)

APR have a Remap for a CTHE and ECOTUNE Glasgow have remapped a CTHE.

http://goapr.co.uk

There are different ECU's though for the CTHE Engines and REVO, Superchips, SHARK Performance and others have not been good

at showing the Dynos of remapped CTHE Fabia MK2 vRS Twinchargers.

Showing a Polo GTI or Seat Ibiza Cupra Twincharger results is not good enough when a dealer then fails to do the job on the Skoda.

REVO failed badly with the Remaps on the CAVE Twinchargers and also in customer services when their Dealers applied a Remap

that was not fit for purpose.

Personally i would avoid going for a REVO Remap on a Twincharger, even if the have got it right now and car remap a CTHE ECU.

*Whoever you choose to remap your car, be sure first that you have a sound engine, running well before remapping on the latest Skoda Software, with good spark plugs and no issues, and also that you are happy running a Twincharger with no Warranty, Manufacturers or Extended Warranty on the engine and gearbox.*

If the engine is not perfect running the latest Factory Software and Sparkplugs, do not expect a Remap to sort out problems, it will likely make them worse IME.

Engine is CAVE and not CTHE although was replaced due to oil consumption issues around 5000 miles ago.

The new engine (which I am told is still a CAVE unit) has ran faultlessly ever since, as have all other components.

Sounds like Revo may be one to avoid and with Shark not offering a map I am looking at the superchips bluefin or APR

APR seem to be well received, is this just a case of going to an APR dealer (in which case are some better than others are should they all be fine?) and having the remap done there? And am I right in thinking the map can be changed (I.e returned to stock) via the cruise control stalk?

The superchips bluefin would be very handy as it would save me visiting a dealer and also give me the option to return to standard but I get the impression their map is not as good as the APR.

Next issue then is did the replacement engine also require a new ECU? Not a problem as most can be remapped, but some 'ie' recent new Ecu,s need a bit more effort and knowledge. There is member here that got one done successfully and is a happy chappy. APR is the way to go.

Not entirely sure what happened in terms of the ECU when the engine was replaced as it was replaced before I bought the car. As far as I know all that was done was a replacement 'short engine' fitted and nothing else but I can't be 100% sure, I may try calling Skoda UK to see if they can give me full details or take the car to an APR dealer to let them have a look.

Nearest dealer to me is MG Autos in Ripley so will give them a call.

Skoda (VW) stopped putting Short Engines in around 2013, and supplied a Base Engine.

Just ask Skoda UK for details on the Engine that was fitted under warranty.

VIN Number for it, when manufacturer or a remanufactured engine,

this is information you are entitled to as they likely never informed the DVLA of a engine (Block) swap,

but they will say the one now fitted carries the same Engine Number as the Original.

If you can be bothered maybe post up a picture of the ECU in your car.

I would be grateful to see which External Casing it has.
