Auto Express: Keyless Entry Test

Featured Replies

With such a nice choice of prestige cars to steal that have keyless entry it is nice to know it reduces the chance of some toe rag wanting your Skoda,

Pointless technology that just makes cars less secure. I have it and wish I didn't (but it was not an option) as I worry someone will nick it. I don't ever have a problem with pressing the remote to open our other car. Its a step back from a standard remote as that requires both the electronic token you get with KESSY and the physical key. Plus how do you get the steering lock off (for example so you can manoeuvre it onto a flatbed) if the electrics fail?

New BMWs have a form of remote access, you can have an app on your phone to allow you to open the car from wherever you are. I read that and first thought was "how do I turn it off". I work in data security and that's the stuff of nightmares to me.

Indeed. The first thing I'd do with a system like that is pull out the data SIM. If you can access it remotely, so can anyone else.

Probably has a virtual SIM, so nothing physical to remove.

Which is obviously scary too.  Maybe look to disconnect the antenna.

[clicky click] Yup Beemers have embedded sims (eSIM).

Yet another rwason to not bother changing my car...

a) noone would steal it as its pointless and worthless

b ) even the toerags wouldnt steal it for joyriding as theres plenty other more powerful cars around the estate for that

I'm sure this 'Stop - Start' nonsense must be pi55ing a lot of drivers off, too, if not being optional.

Pi55es me off when I have to wait half a blummin hour for the person in fronts car to re-start, for them to pull off.

Neither for me, thanks.
