Space saving wheel

Featured Replies

My car's only got a can of tyre weld - I'd like to carry a space saver wheel too. Can someone point me at a suitable & budget friendly one ?

Fit one in the same size as on the car if you can find one.

Or the Steel Spares as come with the car in 195/55 R15.

Maybe a Alloy off a vRS or Monte Carlo which is a 7J x 17 with a 205/40 R 17.

It depends if you want a Temp go slow till you get tyre sorted spare,

a near the size still go slow until tyre repaired,

or a fit and continue journey spare in the boot.

Parts for sale section of Briskoda or Ebay etc.

I'm guessing that you will plan to get some other bits as well if you plan on changing wheels yourself, like a jack, wheel brace and nut cover remover - or do Skoda buck the trend and supply all these bits when not supplying a spare wheel? I'd hope that you could get the tool kit insert or wallet from a scrappy.

Or go to a scrap yard, a wheel of a Mk l Fabia will fit just the same.

Really I just want a modest 'limp home' wheel. Got jack, tools etc

They may already do it but Skoda should offer a "collapsible" spare to save even more space and weight.

What do you want to use the extra space for? As it is the water gathers in plenty of the tyre wells and stuff just gets mouldy!

Ps, your car left the factory with a spare and tools seeing as it is a S2000 /vRS.

Ah OK.. but alas not in my keep now.

For taking up the 1/4 mile etc it makes sense to remove the 19kg spare wheel,

and also the 25 kg of ballast weights on the rear crash bar.    So both done on your car, and the suspension upgrade.

Less weight, and you have better traction at the front.

Some then balance the car just like a Polo GTI came from the factory with the battery in the boot,

and a Spare wheel in if going on a trip, or 2 spares if they have directional tyre on the car.

(Spare wheels were a pay for Option in the Polo GTI Twincharger.)

The 25 kg weights are off your car...

I'm learning a lot about my car from you cheers !

Does help explain why it seems a fast as the last TVR I owned too :)

It just so happens I have an official steel spare wheel for the Fabia for sale at the moment. Bought it from the dealers about a year ago, but I have now got myself a proper matching alloy spare. I'll PM you the ebay link. May be a bit out of your budget because they are pricey brand new, but see what you think anyway.

Hi all dusting down this thread. I bought a wheel from a member a while back & no good.

A. it doesnt fit in the boot!

B. Its full size & weighs a ton

Are there any suitable 'limp home' type ones suitable? You know those ones that make a car look a bit like a clown car, whilst doing 30 on the Motorway...

?

What size did you get?

I used to have a 215/40 R17 inflated on a Gigaro in the spare tyre well.

Usual spare is 195/55 R 15.

One of these are a 205/40 R 17

& the other a 215/40 R 17

Is there not a smaller 50mph wheel that'll work?

You get narrow ones, but really you do not want to go smaller circumference with the tyre.

If the front tyre goes with the twincharger and DSG i would put the rear to the front and the spare on the rear.  PITA.

Much better having a very near size tyre IMO.   On long trips i carried 2 spares because Holiday Weekends in the highlands with a wrecked tyre is really annoying.
