I know that this subject is well documented so please bear with me whilst I come at it from a different angle...

My 59 plate Yeti circa 40k owned from new has started blooming on the lower doors, all below the rubbing strips with 2 small dots above the strip which I suspect will develop in time.

The rest of the body's paintwork is un-marked.

My question is this.... Anticipating that Skoda will claim the 3 year paint warranty has expired..

 

1.   Do I challenge them on the grounds that it's not "paint" but bodywork or even merchantable quality and therefore not limited to 3 year warranty

 

2.   Do I concede and say ok you won't cover it and sort it out so I'll wait to see if it corrodes right through and claim on the 12 year anti- perforation warranty.

 

It would surely and obviously be much cheaper for them to fix it now than deal with rusted through bodywork.

 

As always, any replies will be welcomed even if the responses to my suggested options just say,  ' I'm PI***NG into the wind!'

 

I'd go with your first option and see what they say.

 

And if the second you don't need to wait until it rusts right through. May be detrimental (and possibly a long time!) as the evidence of the cause will be harder to point the finger at.

 

As this is a documented defect just go for it.

How about getting the opinion of an independent inspector from AA or RAC

this would surely carry some weight. Or find out who does their bodywork

and approach it from that direction, if they would actually give an opinion

Not being negative, but.....

 

Point 1: it would be very difficult to prove "not of merchantable quality" after 3 years. I suspect that you would have to be able to prove you had done nothing to potentially cause the problem.

 

Point 2: From a previous case here, the anti-perforation policy by Skoda is quite specific in that the perforation has to come from inside the panel and specifically excludes damage like this.

 

However I would try approaching under 1.
