Skoda tops JD Power's reliability rankings

Featured Replies

Strange that Skoda are at the top and Audi are at the bottom when many models share similar platforms and are virtually identical mechanically. I guess expectations play a major part in peoples voting.

I own own one of the rare unreliable Octavia' and use the world's worst Dealer. Luckily for Skoda I did not vote.

I laughed when I saw the German trio near the bottom. Pity they'll still sell in thousands to people with a false sense of superiority..

And I was comteplating a Audi or BMW as a replacement when my PCH finishes, so another skoda or VW it maybe :-) . Not that I'm unhappy with the Octavia, So far, but I may want a change.

As Orville mentioned it is a bit of a suprise about Audi, Merc BMW. Oh well, I was comteplating an Audi TT, BMW M135 or a Mini Cooper S.

My wife picked up a my14 beetle today, so, aside from the nicer interior, better ride, quieter cabin and better console, we'll see side by side how it fares with mine. Apart from the apples and oranges bit.....

Pity that reliability doesn't seem to help Octavia's hold their value, a great deal for those buying second hand though!

whenever I walk into an Audi or BMW dealership all of a sudden I become invisible and no staff are interested in approaching me :( just because I wear jeans and t shirt doesn't mean I'm not interested in buying...

at least Skoda dealers want to chat and welcome you in their showrooms :)

A friend bought an Audi from large dealership. Over the top handover(car lifted out of ground) left them alone with it to get to know it WHAT. Then tried to push them to give full marks with an online questionnaire or he might get fired. Even offered a future free vallet and tank of diesel. He's this thing about it...... so must be more profit in Audi

That's my car just come out of the dealers for the seventh time in almost 3 years. How skoda came out on top I'll never know, although the Dealer has been excellent.. Only 2 months left thank god...

what was wrong with it? never had one but of problem with my 62 plate mk2!

So far it's been: flywheel, clutch, clutch pedal, door handle fell off, fuel pump replaced, air bag warning light came on (new ecu), passenger Window was possessed by some mad up and down demon.... I think there was something else but I've lost count now..

It's because, of those surveyed, Skodas had "only" 66 problems per 100 vehicles, whilst second place Suzuki had an average of 79 problems per 100 vehicles.

So for the 7 problems you found on your Skoda, there could be 10+ customers who had zero problems.

i take most surveys with a pinch of salt, there only as good or bad as the people voting

I can't believe any new car should have a single problem at least for the 1st 3 years, I thought what with "modern" technology reliability would have improved since the 70's?

shocked.

I have owned 11 new cars and the only one that did not have to go back to the Dealers for warranty work within the first year was a Fiat Punto 1.9D Active. It was also the cheapest new car I have every purchased and covered very high mileage - go figure. The next most reliable cars were a pair of Subaru Imprezes, one requiring a replacement ABS sensor, and the other had a faulty CD auto-changer (which was a Dealer, not factory fit item anyway).

The most unreliable has been my VRS by far. Lots of niggling faults within the first year followed by clutch failure within the second. The Dealer I used during the first year (Preston Motors) was decent so I could not really complain, but the second dealer (Essex Auto Group) are absolutely hopeless. I have also owned 3x new VW's (two Polo's and a Beetle) and all of them suffered multiple electrical issues within the first year. My opinion of VAG is now terribly low, so the Octavia will be my last VAG car.

My wife wants a Japanese car next time (Mazda CX5), but I feel like another Impreza now that they are being sold within the UK again. The Subaru's are properly-engineered and have great character. If you can see past the cheap trim and flimsy body panels they are superb vehicles. After all, I t is underneath what counts.

Don't get me wrong, the VRS is a really good car but poor reliability and dreadful dealer service means that I cannot wait to get rid of it. As soon as the PCP is over it will be returned.

And the company "sponsoring" the survey.

"Sponsoring" includes, but is not limited to, advertising revenue via other mediums related to the survey originator.

A real world example: your company publishes a widely read PC magazine (along with many others) that includes *independent" reviews of new PCs.

Hewlett Packard, for example, places £5m worth of advertising with you.

You review a PC from Hewlett Packard that, if you're honest, is crap.

Do you jeopardise your £5m revenue by publishing a crappy review?

The survey isn't sponsored, it's compiled by an independent market research and statistics company

who get their funding from...........

Selling their data and licensing their award display to those that have won an award.

If you have evidence that jd power have a conflict of interests I'd be interested to know though?
