Crying over spilled milk.

Featured Replies

Hello

I'm looking for a bit of help.

I was very much enjoying my business se, refinement, gadgets, comfort, umbrellas etc.... Unfortunately all of that has come to an abrupt end as my wife has managed to spill 2 pints of semi skimmed into the front passenger seat! She is claiming a defective seal on the bottle ( I always use the hooks in the boot for carrier bags).

In anycase the once wonderful interior now smells like a VERY rotten corpse. I'm not exaggerating it actually does having experience of such things.

I'm pretty sure no amount of surface cleaning is going to fix the problem completly.

Has anyone any experience of this sort of situation. I'm thinking of insurance claim for a new seat???

Any advice welcome.

Funnily enough I nearly put "wife for sale" in the title

Have a go with bicarbonate of soda. It's usually pretty good for absorbing smells ( says he hopefully ). Best of luck anyway.

At worst it's a new base cover and foam.

I would that thought 2 pints however would have run over/through and the carpet underneath may well be holding a bit.

If it's gone through and onto the floor, it's a seat out and deep clean job. Still not un-salvageable though. You'd be best placed going to a decent (experienced, personally recommended) detailer or professional valet to get it properly dismantled. They'll be able to clean it with biological concoctions containing enzymes to eat the bacteria generated by the milk (hence the smell), as well as get the various seat(s) and trim out etc to do it properly. It may well take more than one 'treatment' and a fair bit of time to go properly, however, but don't give up hope!

Best of luck... and rather you than me! :(

^^^^ Correct.

My parents first went to get spilt milk removed by a dealership after complaining to Asda over the bottle without a proper seal.

The job done was rubbish and and Wisemans the Dairy were less than pleased that Asda were billing them.

The smell made the car unusable, and when contacted directly Wisemans had the car cleaned properly with the neutraliser used.

New insulation and carpets were required in the end though.

My wife's Yaris had to have all the seat replaced (bar the frame which had to be cleaned as well) when our grandson had an "accident" as no amount of cleaning was successful in getting rid of the smell, which appeared to have gone but always returned as it was too far imbedded within the material.

The cost to the insurers from the Toyota garage was nearly £1900!

You would be surprised how many bits were involved and that it would be cheaper to buy a completely new seat but it was not.

They remove odours including those from milk.

Sadly the odours removed does not stop the milk doing the dirty.

Total removal and replacement of materials can be required.

The worst smell i ever had in my life in a car was from a Water Melon left in the boot among coats and not found until the car was being returned at end of lease.

All i spotted was a small furry ball and thought it was a wasps nest.

I tried to move it gently with 2 fish slices and it bust open and so did i as i was very very sick as the smell hit me.

What a bl00dy mess.

Steam cleaning of the boot with carpet binned, and a new boot carpets fitted and the car was still stinking as it was collected from the dealers to go to auction.

Try some Valet pro Enzyme Odour Eater, Spray on the desired area, agitate if there is any staining and vacuum off.

It will clean the stain off, kill any bacteria, destroy any food sound and remove any odours.

They and other products like them are quite good on flat surfaces but do not get to the remaining source that is within the seat.

I had the same thing happen in a MK1 Golf, I removed the seat from the car, carpets too, then drenched it all in buckets and buckets full of very strong solutions of clothes detergent, then left it to soak a couple of days, hosed it with hundreds of gallons of cold water, let it dry in the sunshine and it was fine.  But with the electrics and even explosives in your seat I guess you couldn't try this :(
