JD Power Survey & Skoda Fabia's

Featured Replies

Ok so this may have been reported earlier in the year. I haven't found anything on here but may have missed it. However, the 2016 JD Power survey shows Skoda as top dog in the reliability stakes, for the second year running! This applies particularly to the Fabia and Yeti with the lowest number of problems than any other cars on the market.

Here's a link for anyone who hasn't seen it. The graph showing the overall results is particularly interesting. But scroll up and down for a good read.

Bests....

Edited by Estate Man

It was the lack of issues and support I got from my local dealer when I did have one slight issue that made me opt for another Monte...

(Not to mention the amount of people that raved about their Skoda when I spent 6 months with a Dealer)

I had a focus company car and a fiesta company van for 2plus years along side my first (Current Fabia) Fabia, and tbh really fancied a Fiesta Black or Red edition as it offered similar style as a monte but with a little more power and 3 door looks.... and what killed it for the Fiesta..... Fords after sales.

Had Ford managed to look after me like my Skoda dealer had. I think it would of been a tougher choice as it's no secret the Fiesta is more sportier and better handling car than the Fabia, but the Fabia being the less obvious choice and not as common as to see as the Fiesta Red or Black or the Corsa "Limited" Editions , made it a good option for me, I remember the amount of attention my first Current Monte got when I first had, it was only a year old and still not a massively common site at point, a lot of people made nice comments, confused it for a VRS (well people with a less knowledge of the brand and range). what did surprise was still the amount of people that still had a rather negatives view of the Skoda.. but that's another topic.

The nail in the coffin for the ford was revisiting the Ford Dealer 3 times for the same issue with Heater controls... each time a min wait of 2weeks IF I could make do without a replacement car...(luckily being a commercial dealer we normally have a spare van or even car available sometimes... for one week of the Focus downtime ended up with a managers old A4 S Line so that was a result lol)

In the end I had to opt to take to another that fixed the issues. Skoda on the over hand were happy to take the car straight away and managed to repair before lunch..., ok to be fair, it was a simple broken spring on the Brake shoes, not a electrical issue.... and yes I appreciate Ford have many more cars on the road.... but still the Fabia had less faults and had covered more miles than the focus had.

From that point on it my mind made up... i was going to get a MK3 to replace my Mk2 Monte Carlo

On the 16th July in the General Chat Section i posted 'Who on Briskoda took part in the JD Power Survey 2016?'

there was a similar thread to this one in the Yeti section and i asked in a post 'How many responded to the JD Power Survey?'.

Only a handful of members responded to say the took part in the survey.

Briskoda is thew biggest Skoda Forum in the UK, probably in the world.

?

So who here with a 2014/15/15 All New 3rd Generation Fabia or any Skoda under 3 years old filled in the JD Power Survey. or a Which, AutoExpress or any other survey about their Skoda,  or actually and other manufacturers car,

that would be on Skoda Reliability. or the other manufacturers, Dealers Performance & Customer car or any Survey other than one Skoda gave you and asked to be completed?

'The 2016 UK Vehicle Dependencies Survey results come from over 13,000 owners responses'.

Well we never know how many Owners or those Leasing fill in surveys, or maybe Dealership Employees sitting twiddling their

thumbs rather than carrying out good Customer Services.

Time they could spend Reading Brochures & Owners Manuals and Configurators and familiarising themselves with the product they are trying to sell,

and where they see errors contacting Skoda CZ or UK and getting these errors corrected or clarified.

I wonder how many believed these results.

(Replies on a Survey Sheet nobody received or submmitted.)

Don't forget that in the trade it's the JD Power Survey that counts as it's the biggest and the best (they reckon). They don't just rely on what consumers tell them they do other research too. And this forum, good though it is, has not been heard of by many Skoda owners and as a result has only a tiny number of the total number of Skoda owners on it. So problems some have on here seem amplified towards the brand. That's not to say some who don't know about this forum don't have a problem to contend with but the study shows an overwhelming "satisfied" vote with Skoda being not just a little ahead of the pack, but having a very big lead indeed. Of course people with an issue will seek out somewhere to post about it. And rightly so. But we never hear from the overwhelming majority of folks who never get any issues at all, and there are indeed many. In owning 3 Fabia's in the last 10 years I've only ever had one issue, a failed rear wiper motor which was corrected under warranty without a problem. I've had 4 Fiestas all from new and driven the latest models. In my mind they don't come close to the Fabia. The Fiesta problems I encounted were massive. New engines on two, new gearbox on another, respray needed, electrical problems, water leaks and corrosion, and the list goes on. Inside it's much more claustrophobic, smaller boot, harsher ride, very poor (in my experience) Ford dealer support. And the advantage many speak of regarding the Fiesta's handling is really only slight and irrelevant to most people unless you drive on the limit all the time.

Ford Fiesta compared to Fabia Mk3:

     Well worth a read!

*Problems with New Cars.*

Quality Control issues, poor PDI's etc.*  Fundamental Design or Manufacturing or Material Faults.*

Skoda UK First Registered in the UK last year just about the same number as the Golfs first registered in the UK by VW.

(Look how many Fiesta were first registered in the UK in 2015, double the number of all Skoda in the UK first registered.)

Skoda UK are very low volume suppliers of vehicles, and of the low numbers Registered in the UK a high percentage are out to Fleet Users.

That is Leased out and then ones that are purchased by the likes of Motability so owned by a Group.

The issue with the VW Group is not the sales or First Registrations it is how Warranty Issues are addressed or not addressed, admitted or accepted as being an issue.

Many will not make complaints other than have 1 or more issue addressed when a car goes in for a service.

Only Fixed servicing will be within 1 year.

Variable can be 2 years before something is corrected or Service Campaign (Recall actions) are done.

There are statistics and damn statistics and these might matter.

As to new car registrations in the UK @ 2.63 million for 2015, then look at the Survey results for low volume first registrations like with MG and see the high placings,

PS

Always remember,  What Car Car of the Year 2015.  Before anyone had a Fabia delivered and actually referring to a particular engine.

Then 2016 What Car result on the Small Car.

Lets go back to the predictions on residuals and how they have proven to be or not.

Skoda had enough experience from the original Fabia, then the Mk2, then the FL Mk2 before they got to the 3rd Generation so they should be snag free.

Lets hope any they found are all gone by the time the 3rd Generation Facelift Fabia is available.

Ford Fiesta compared to Fabia Mk3:

Well worth a read!
I could agree more realating to the Fiesta and Fabia.

The Fiesta Sport van i had was firm crash. But on a typical day to day drive on A-Roads was the handling difference wasnt big enough to warrant it being a major factor.

I think my issue would be had i wanted a preformance model.... its a Shame they opted not to make a MK3 VRS.

The 2.0TDI in the Mk 1 seem to be hugely popular.... it amazed me they did try and make a TDI vrs in the MK2 i can only imagine it was an after thought as it didnt appear till the FL,

Totally confused now, what car  are you talking about with a 'TDI vrs in the Mk2, is this an Octavia or a Fabia?

Sorry i made an error i ment the 1.9TDI MK1 Fabia VRS was popular.... it seems a shame they did make a version of when making the MK2 fabia.

Brimma built one pretty much as Skoda could have, but then that was not what VW wanted in 2010 obviously because they had to build and sell them with Euro 5 Emissions engines and the weight to suit that in the class of car they were offering.
