600+mile tank range possible in Citigo?

Featured Replies

So really there are two debates here:

A- does the citigo/up/mii really come with 35litre tank?

B- is 600miles possible from one fill up?

From the 500+ mile thread it seems that virtually all of them do come with a 35 litre tank, and I now know from experience that when it's *really* empty it'll take almost 38

In a quest for frugality, my driving has mainly been Wiltshire and Gloucestershire backroads but a decent chunk on the M4/M5/M6

The question is can 600 miles be possible from the Citigo??? I'm getting close

Well that's over 71mpg assuming you can get 38 litres in and whilst I have managed over that mpg occasionally it has not been often. I still haven't managed 500 although have come close on occasion. The Citigo is very efficient around 40mph so if you stay around that speed then I reckon you could do it; would be boring as hell though and, for me, the Citigo is better than that! Good luck though.

All the journeys I did on this tank were over 70mpg, my best being 159 miles last night at a journey average of 80.1mpg. Shame I didn't reset the PID to get an overall average, but I reckon it would have been about 75mpg on the PID

It was both boring and hard work and I've no plans to do it again. But I have set a target to beat in the same way that stooz did with 543 with 5 remaining on the PID; all of a sudden 500 just wouldn't be enough and 548 was the target. stooz must have done a much better job of brimming the tank on that run as I was expecting to get a lot further as I was (if the PID is to be believed) getting about 5-6mpg more, or it could be that there is a bit of variation in PID measurement accuracy.

lol - you guys serious go above and beyond. I have managed over 500 miles on a tank on a couple of long journey, smooth road, empty road, no hurry type perfect storm situations, but generally was happy with 400 mile fill ups and driving with a little pep.

I struggle to break 400 at the moment as my mrs keeps using it, or I have to do short runs to the shops etc. Good luck!

Like wise light on at 400 must do better!!

588.8miles looks superb!! But i would like to see the PID photo of its data for that attempt.

When i originally asked about 500+ tanks miles this was being performed in ASG model....... I also was providing much more data in the attempts which illustrated the amount of litres being put in the citigo on each attempt......... also i proved ours could put well more than 35litres in the tank.

Out of interest here is my best range (altough not in citigo)

Yes, I completely forgot to reset the PID, simply reset the trip. It's a shame as I'd like to have got a photo of it to see the overall mpg average but it wasn't to be. And I'm not putting myself through that again for a second attempt.

The lad's Citigo has the standard 35 litre tank.

What did impress me was that I managed to get over 50 miles out of it after the PID said zero.

Must be a bit heavy on the right boot as I have never managed more than 360 miles on a tank ???

Ive thrashed mine round for 2 days solid in the welsh hills and still did over 400!

Bet you started at the top of the hill!

Further to my recent answer on the 500+ thread, I managed 601 miles on 35.0 litres back in September. Edinburgh to London plus M25, during a particularly hot spell so some air-con was used.

The highest theoretical range seen so far on my PID was 429 miles driven, with a range to go of 205 = 634 miles. Avg. consumption showed 81.5 mpg at that 1F0E7C7F-75D8-4147-9151-E9AE2A15952A_zps

Now, seeing as I got over 50 miles after the PID showed zero, with your 78.9mpg average you could have been on for a 650 mile tank...

Working on it.............

Time to hang up my "Hypermiling hat", but not before answering some questions on the 500+, 600+, best mpg, and how long to empty threads.

The 2017 attempt used the A1, A1(M), M18, M25, M11, A11 and A47. Mid tank figures shown above (distance driven 321, driving range 325, giving possible range = 646 miles.

the end results are as follows :-

fuel light on at 560 miles, PID range was 50 miles remaining.

0 miles range at 605 miles

fuel tank empty at exactly 660 miles.

So I achieved 45 miles driving from fuel light on to 0 miles range indicated, and a further 55 miles after 0 indicated..... To an empty tank. ( fortunately, the engine died after I had given up hope of running out of fuel, and whilst turning into a Tesco petrol station.... Allowing me to coast to the pumps!)

final PID numbers showed 80.7 Mpg, full to full calculated was 79.08 mpg. ( very similar)!

Finally, on fuel tank size, when I filled up previously at 0 miles range.... I managed to put in 35 litres. This time filling a dry tank.... I managed to put in exactly 38 litres. I hope that answers

most threads and questions.

I guess maybe 1 question........ 700 +. ?

Really impressed with the figures @777boeingman.

When a Peugeot team took a 1.2L3 pot turbo 308 around a closed circuit to set a (some class or other) petrol consumption record they managed 2.9L/100 (99mpg) at an average speed of about 58kph.

I know yours is a smaller car than a 308 but it was achieved on public roads and at higher 43mph (70kph) average.

I'd imagine you are not using the surge and glide method (beloved of American hypermilers) as it's too dangerous on UK crowded roads so assume you are restricting your speeds to around 50mph which is difficult enough in itself.
