I have had my first warning for thee engine coolant level, I left my Škoda guide at work so cannot check what coolant it recommends. Can I use a standard off the shelf coolant or does it need to be a Škoda approved version?

Skoda or VW G13 coolant.

Skoda, SEAT or VW dealers sell 1.5 litres for about £12

Just pour straight in to top up. No need to dilute.

Most dealers parts dept closed now, so Monday soonest I expect.

Dont you check it each month? Have you got enough oil also?

Maybe a tiny bit of water could be added to get the light off, but only a cup full. Dont dilute the antifreeze too much no its cold.

Blond moment, the light came on a hill and stayed on until I turned ignition off. Checked again on a hill and just touching the minimum mark. Will top it up tomorrow with the skoda approved stuff.

If it's on the minimum mark, just top it up with a bit of distilled water for now until you can get the coolant - available in Tesco etc.
