No one will custom map the vrs

Featured Replies

Was speaking to APR and jabbasport and not one of them want to custom map the VRS ????

That is understandable,  but do not get a Custom Map, just see if you can get an APR Map.  Tried and tested and works, on a CAVE.

Stay well away from REVO.

As to Shark Performance they kept saying they could do the CTHE and never showed results of having, APR being no better really, all talk and no action.

Call here and ask about a APR Stage 1.

VrsGeo no longer has his Twincharger, but it had a replacement CAVE that required a new ECU and it was given a Stage 1 APR Map

and rather good it was too.

Have a look at it on youtube in the Briskoda Santa Pod thread.

(maybe he still looks into the forum and can advise you.)

I've been reading that thread and it's appears he had a bad CAVE engine that lost compression , I have a very strong CTHE engine, guys in Greece are running 300bhp +

thomasaspin,

Is your engine really a CTHE?  Was it a CTHE from the factory replaced by a CTHE or did you get a CAVE with the latest Oil Spray Jets.

Maybe put up a picture of the ECU in your car.

Did you tell the APR Dealership you spoke to that you had a CTHE.

Are the guys in Greece running standard internals.

Ask Newbie69 whats what, he went Stage 2+.

EDIT,

Just read your thread on Oil Squirters where you had a Breather Mod and squirters before you then got a new engine,

So do you have an Invoice for a New CTHE & ECU or were you told that 'This is the latest engine?'

Have you had your car on a Dyno to see what you are getting and anyone check what Software it has?

The tech guy who fitted my engine said it was A CTHE with all uprated internals I.E. Uprated squirter jets ETC I just think my car is a waste on a standard out of the box map like APR do when I have a huge Airtec intercooler an ITG maxogen filter, Audi R8 coil pack upgrade getting the turbo Hybrided and a custom sports cat exhaust fabricated to a milltek catback exhaust I had already purchased. I've taken into account some of the issues with this engine by getting the oil seals in the turbo strengthened when I send it off but as APR said this engine is discontinued so am I just fighting a loosing battle trying to make it better :(

What are you trying to make it good for Track or Strip?

Are you going to be fitting the Uprated Clutches

What has the engine being discontinued got to do with anything, and who are you speaking to at APR?

or where are you speaking to them at.

I have been told the same thing for mine no one will touch it! 2010 with oil issues

I would have not mapped mine without getting the oil problem fixed first. Its around £700 for a CAVE. Dont bother with consumption test and take your own OIL. This will save £100

The bigger intercooler should primarily help with heat-soak which is a known issue with these engines rather than offer significant performance gains (at least in my experience with this car). Similarly the ITG might release 4-6 ponies at best but it's not like your tuner would actually alter boost pressure, a/f ratios etc. just because of an intake upgrade. I would expect the car to make just slightly more power than off-the-shelf stage 1 cars but that's it. You're not really losing much by not getting a custom stage 1 map at this point.

When you do upgrade the exhaust (actually the important item is the the sports catalyst not what goes after it) then yes you will need a stage 2 map to benefit from it but I again don't mean custom. Several companies offered stage 2 maps, not sure what has changed in the UK at least. On a sidenote, the transition from S1 to S2 has a far smaller "wow factor" and way worse VFM ratio than "stock to S1"

The only point at which you will need a custom map is if you mess with the turbo but then if you go down that road it only makes sense to have spoken beforehand with a decent tuner that can provide the required map, preferably one that has had success with other similar cars. No need/point to mess with the turbo before ensuring who is tuning it next. I know it's possible in Greece (my stage 2 was done there) because due to the local market, 1.4 TSI's are very popular so there always has been great demand for S1/2/3 tuning but the distance could prove problematic. There's the option of shipping the ECU but at least my tuner, for anything over stage 2 preferred to physically tune the car "on the dyno" as they say.

Ecotune is the only company I would take it to, my ECU was updated to a cthe and it took them 3weeks to break the encryption. Speak to Stan at Ecotune, he said he would do a stage 3 tune for me. But with stage 2 traction was a problem and I wasnt convinced the engine could take more boost and be reliable as it was my daily driver, that's why I got rid. Spent my money on a car that was fast out the box and make faster when the time suits

I had a stage 1 custom remap on my 2010 CAVE over 3 years ago. I'm at 210bhp and I have never had any of the engine mods done by Skoda.

The car has always performed exceptionally well and yes I do use a bit of oil but I am happy to do that for the excitement and enjoyment I get from the VRS.

The company that carried out the work was Performance Torque (p-torque.co.uk) in Wombourne, West Midlands.

I don't do a lot of miles these days - my VRS is now 6 years old and only at 28000 miles, but no problems yet (touch wood and fingers crossed) as I hope to keep it for a while longer.

Just bought a GFB DV+ and will be fitting it later this week.

so do you think the engine can't take much more boost than it already has ?

^^^ above in the last 3 posts you get 3 long time vRS Twincharger drivers / owners & the ones that know plenty from experience.

The APR Maps are good for a 1.4 TSI / TFSI 132-136kw Minimum Twinchargers,

the APR HQ 'Communications' & some that answer the questions on the products seem to know jack **** , just as do some APR Dealers Employees who should be avoided,

as should REVO when it is for Twinchargers.

Just IMO.

??

What do you want all the power for, road, track or strip or for the shake of it?

It gets very expensive when it goes tits up, but not really that much compared to some spend on buying a quick car,

For a few thousand quid you can go buy a fast car, or just buy another Twincharger Engine and start again.

It wasn't a gamble I was willing to take. Yes I think it can take it, but for how long iam not so sure.

Speak to Stan @ ecotune for some advice!
