Dealer saying impact damage - new to me

Featured Replies

Sorry long story. 4 month old car. Dropped key on door cill. Took it to a high end body repair centre. They did great job on cill but when checking car I noticed some powder near the headlight sprayer cut out. When I removed the powder in the show room it revealed some very light scratches/swirl marks on front bumper. They said it looked like a jetwash hose had scraped it - and they agreed to fix this and it was booked for 2 weeks later

3 days after this I noticed that after using windscreen washer there was a big leak coming from passenger side of engine bay. Took it to dealer who said the headlight sprayer was not popping out.

After taking it in today they are saying it is not a warrenty issue because a part of the pump has broken off. ie the pump had been broken rather than it being faulty. They say the only thing that could have caused this is impact damage. The part of the pump that broke off is the bit that is sticking up on the left of the attached picture. The pipe fits onto this part of the pump

I have not had a crash in it and the only other place it has been is the body repair centre.

Could impact damage to break this headlight washer pump leave so little damage to the bumper?

I took the car in to the body repair centre on the monday and collected it on the tuesday. I am thinking that if the body centre did have a shunt when they returned it to me they would have got rid of the powder that I noticed

Is there any other way this could have been broken other than impact. Is this a known fault. Thanks

I wonder whether Dealer Post-Delivery Inspection includes checking of headlight washer-jets? If it does, then they should have it ticked on a checklist somewhere. If it doesen't then you can argue that they should accept liability for repair, atleast as a courtesy.

I picked up a new O3 2 weeks ago and the drivers side headlight washer was faulty, e.g ****ing water out the underside of the car.  I don't know the exact fault or if it was broke as per your picture as it was replaced last week.  Mine definitely hasn't had any frontal impact, so maybe bad batch of headlight washers!
