Mechatronic unit blowing 30-amp fuse

Recommended Posts

Hello

Had my MKII since Feb '15. Ran perfect for two years until this year when the Mechatronic unit decided to fail, did some research and found that it had blown a 30-amp fuse under the dashboard.

Came across a company in Derby called ECU Testing which can re-manufacture and "engineer out" the faults on the TCU so it won't happen again. (Loss of power on a roundabout isn't fun!!)

Has anyone else used this company for this fault?

Thanks

Is it a 2012 vRS?

So you have the Skoda Service Campaign,   34F7  to change the Synthetic Oil to Mineral and do a software update, was this done?

IS THERE A STICKER IN THE SPARE TYRE WELL SHOWING '34F7' ?

Get in touch with SKODA UK CUSTOMER SERVICES since the car is blowing fuses.

There was a World wide Recall excluding Europe because VW Group said fuses could blow, not kill you losing drive, you just roll to safety.

So maybe different, no problem though, have VW / Skoda fix it for free.

http://skoda.co.nz/news/dsg-service-campaign

In New Zealand they fitted new MCU's, and Rest of World extended warranties.

There is another Service Campaign on DQ200 DSG's started late 2016,

Some need a software update, they could be build 2012-2015,  so check that out, maybe your DSG is pre Factory Fill Mineral oil, maybe later.

Service campaign 34H5

Maybe 34F7 shows if outstanding,

34H5 might not if people are checking, so always check with SKODA UK.

Yes it was registered April 2012. I am unaware of any service campaigns completed on the car. I currently have all oil out of the gearbox, which i'm guessing would have been synthetic so should I put mineral back in??

No warranty on the car so I doubt Skoda would look at it but right now it's in a gearbox shop under a ramp without a mechatronic unit installed.

You did not need a warranty, they had a life long Corporate Responsibility not to kill you or others because of a Fundamental Design, Manufacturing, Material or Component /software failure,

ie Loss of Drive.

Now no idea where you stand, you need someone knowing what they are doing, and if you never knew the issues and ECU Testing in Derby never told you then maybe they are not the people to use.

?

Why did you drain it to replace the Mechatronic Control Unit? ,

have you got the filler, i take it the specialists do, can you upload the software, because now you are in a pickle unless they can.

Lets hope the place it is at has all the gear and more than just an idea.  the correct fluid for the MCU in a DQ200 DSG, and the software.

?

How much are you paying them?

I see...

The Mechatronic unit sits on the outside of the gearbox with the pistons directly inside the fork selectors of the gearbox itself, hence why the oil was drained.

The gearbox place has software to set basic adaptations if needed when my mechatronic unit is repaired and re installed, however as it is still my mechatronic unit then no software should need reprogramming as nothing has been changed.

Labour £50 p/h for 3 hours.

ECU Testing £300 inc. VAT.

Point is,

Software Update 34F7 and mineral oil is highly recommended because this was introduced because of failures / LOSS of DRIVE.

I have the TPI's / Technician Notes etc. (well my mate the Autobox Specialist has because i gave him them.)

I got them right off the Skoda Computer System.

Interesting that they are manufacturing out the faults for you, maybe they will recommend the Mineral Oil and software update as well.

Oddly VW Manufactured out the faults, and then from 2013 had more failures and have to 'Remanufacture & Software' and even replace MCU's on 2014 Mk2 vRS.

See threads in this section, and pinned up top.

I entered my VIN on that website btw, but it says try again later, strange.

I will ring SKODA UK when I get the car back and see what they say about this, as this seems as it could have been avoided!
