Lowering Springs

Featured Replies

Yup. This topic has been started before... I know!

But I was interesting in lowering springs to transform my Fabia elegance 1.6tdi 105 from a boat to a car and also thinking about getting the more BHP map to 145bhp and at that point I think stiffer springs would be a must to help with the squatting. I have a mate who's got Eibach springs on his fiesta which are not bad tbh, I mean you have to be careful where you drive and how fast but its not that bad at all imho.

I have been looking at Eibach 30mm all round lowering springs but I have also read about the HR 40mm lowering springs. I do sometimes pack my car up with heavy camera equipment (only one year left of that thank god) but I also do the occasional camping trip which made me lean towards the 30mm drop so I still have a bit of headroom when I load up the car.

Whats everyones opinions on this and is it an easy job to do??

I'd say the H&R springs are the more popular option with other Fabia 5J owners but the Eibach Pro are definitely the more comfortable option.

Sure they'll be a few members running them along soon.

I'm running 40 H&Rs on my monte with standard shocks. Actually rides better than the standard springs but still doesn't like pot holes.

Had it full up at the weekend taking stuff to the dump and didn't really sit any lower and didn't scrape at all.

The ride can get bouncy if you get a couple of undulations close to each other though if it doesn't have time to settle but hope to swap the shocks to bilstiens at some point.

I got them fitted by a mate that works at kwik fit as a homer but he still did it in there with proper tools and a hunter alignment. Rears dead easy but for the front he had to drop the subframe.

Thanks for the pictures and response!! That is one bloody sexy Monte!! Love it!!

I am leaning towards the H&R because the drop is more and looks nicer, I will also be running stock shocks etc. Did you fit them yourself or get someone to do it for you??

Getting my remap done tomorrow so tomorrow will be the day I start saving for new springs as I am sure the torque is going to squat the back end badly! - ps I maybe have copied you on the old European yellow tint... hope you dont mind

H&R is what I am leaning towards and I see you stock them on your website for a really nice price!!! Cheaper than the Eibach 30mm I was looking at.

Do they fall out of the shocks when lifted or do they seat nicely and no fear of them failing?

Thanks  it's took time to get there but happy with the looks. I got my yellow tints from Funk Motorsport who use lamin-x proper thick stuff. Used to people coping it lol when I got those done on the Monte Carlo Facebook group another 3/4 people go them done.

Same with the wheels never seen a mk2 with spiders then after I got mine another 2 people got them :D

I too will be getting some h and r 40mm but after I get my sideskirts painted and fitted. I however will be going for a set of new koni shocks. I imagine running standard shocks with the h&rs will significantly reduce lifespan of standard shocks. Interested to hear from others on this tho

No you shouldn't have any worries about them falling out the shocks as long as they're fitted correctly.

Do they reduce the body roll of the car meaning it corners better instead of feeling like its going to roll over?? got some lovely b roads around me which I used to bomb around in my fiesta, but I cant at the moment due to body roll being too much!!

It does roll less but i do have an H&R 25mm rarb also some of my fav B roads I can't bomb them as fast as I used to due to scraping now lol

I was looking at fitting the whiteline rarb in the future! My friends got a low fiesta (its in my profile cover photo) and he copes ok with the roads around me so I am sure the 40mm drop wont be an issue! But glad to hear it reduces body roll, as trying to keep up with his fiesta in the corners isn't easy when your acting like a boat in rough seas.

I have both the H&R springs and RARB on my Monte estate. The springs made a huge difference to handling, including a significant reduction in body roll, as well as improving comfort over the stock springs. I fitted the RARB after I had had the springs fitted and the RARB does reduce understeer a fair bit, not a "night and day" difference compared to just having the springs fitted, but together they really make a difference.

Ah thats good to hear!! I am keen to get the h&r springs to help reduce the body roll. insurance quoted me £95 to add springs onto my car so will start saving to get this done.

So I got the springs from DPM Performance (Nice plug @Damian@DPM) and got them fitted last night! Back springs where done in no time and very very easy! The fronts on the other hand are a little bit more tricky.

Had to remove the brake and disc etc ( was changing pads and discs anyway) and also had to push the drive shaft out and disconnect the lower control arm from the hub and swing the hub out sideways so it can be hammered down to release the bottom of the shock. Couple hours later and it was all back together and on a test drive!! Wow!! So different and I have a lot more confidence in the corners now. worth every penny.

Thanks to everyone who gave their advice and support on the subject, much appreciated!!

Excuse the dirt but here is a before photo (mud from the mudbath carpart at goodwood revival)

And after!!

Did you go for the H&R in the end ? Standard shocks or upgraded ?

H&R 40mm on stock shocks, rides nice even if its a little stiffer and you will feel more bumps in the road but the cornering is more planted and stable. It is very good!

Nice one. I'm leaning more toward the H&r too. But thinking of pairing with koni strt shocks. I amWorried about life of standard shocks with 40mm springs. Any car IV ever lowered has always been 30mm on standard shocks. So going 40mm for me will be a first

Well I cant say how the life of the shocks will last but its riding nicely on stock shocks (they have covered 66,000Miles) and tbh I do 60+ miles a day in my furbi and its fine, not too harsh but you get a lot nicer road contact unlike the boaty feeling with stock height.

H&R are a well known good brand and I felt if I went 30mm I would want it lower so I got the 40mm drop and I am very happy.

The eibach 30mm Pro spring are £170 vs H&R 40mm Springs for £137... It was a simple choice for me!

With a VRS 40mm Springs will make the ride more solid and make corners easier to take!

I have the 1.6 elegance too just wondering if anyone knows if the shockers are the same on the vrs or if they're a little stiffer

Welcome.

Check the part numbers of the different shock absorbers / dampers, they might be the same parts, or someone might know.

The vRS / Monte Carlo OEM springs are shorter / stiffer though. No by much and not worth fitting, just a the OEM dampers are not IMO.
