Water gathering in door - Characteristic of the Car

I am sure I have seen in the forum something about this issue before but can't seem to find it now.

 

In my Skoda Octavia Scout after it has rained and you open either the passenger or the driver's door, water has pooled at the bottom of the door so it spills out onto the road / over your feet.

 

I have been told by my local dealership that this is a characteristic of the car and also been advised similar by Skoda UK.

 

My question is, is this a characteristic of a Skoda Scout or is there a fix to this problem? Just don't like water pooling and getting wet feet when we open the car doors.

 

 

Some would say characteristic and some say a design feature or requirement as otherwise the door will fill with H2o and in winter at freezing temps there will be a block of ice in the door.

 

So VW Group including Skoda have had this issue for a long time now, 

so remember if you do not carry passengers go open the other door occasionally and let the water escape, especially when it becomes de-frosting window time.

Crap design carried over from previous models. 

VW Group & Dealerships are full of characters that follows the VW characteristic ways,

just tell the customers any old crap, and forget that after decades of car manufacturing 

VW group never got the hang of rubber seals, water pumps, gaskets, or chains and chain tensioners, or quality control.

 

From Aircooled engines that could not keep the oil in to water cooled that can not keep the coolant in and drinks oil, 

to cabins of vehicles that are often at the risk of steaming up.

Hi the_minch, do some more searching on here to find the discussions - but I had both front door seals replaced under warranty on my 2014 vRS. Known problem, to do with lack of/or not aligned drain holes in the door seals.

Does aligning the door seals and drain holes keep the water in the door then so that it does not come out when the door is opened, 

and how does it get out, do the dealerships drain the H2o at services?

There are holes in the bottom of the metal door. These holes are there to allow water to drain from the door and avoid water gathering it. The problem is that the outer rubber seal on bottom of the door blocks these drain holes when the door is closed. 

 

There are redesigned outer door seals available from Skoda. They have carefully placed holes in the rubber but it is still hit-and-miss whether they line up and allow the water to drain from the door when it is closed.

 

Seems like poor design to me especially when compared to the door seals on the VW Passat. The Passat has an extra seal to stop wind noise and as a result the outer seal on the bottom of the door has gaps for the drain holes.

I know what they do.

The water should not be in there in the first place that is the issue.

All cars with windows that can be lowered will allow water in. Like most cars they're holes in the bottom of the doors to allow the water to drain out. VAG just seem to have problems with the concept as they block the holes with seals preventing the water from draining. It's only been about 10 years since people started complaining about this, give it another decade and they may start to think about fixing it. 

Dont accept the response from your dealer.

I have had my door seals modified to correct this issue. It was completely free & handled under warrenty without question.

There is also now a new seal design with repositioined holes which they could fit for you.

 

There are many users on here who have had this modification/replacement/both done....

I no longer have any water staying the doors even after pressure washing or heavy rain.

Thats the best answer.. I had mine fixed under warranty... but had to get Skoda UK involved (via Facebook..lol).

This exactly happened to me, driving to a ski resort in the driving rain, parked up outside the chalet.

A week later the doors were iced-shut.

The seals had retained so much water Inside that there was a block of ice around the door hinge.

It felt like I was levering the door off trying to open it.

I don't know why UK dealers are making such a big fuss about this.

It just replacing two door seals, can't take that long & if they can claim the cost back under warrenty then I don't see where the problem is.

Skod aUK say they have not heard of this problem and there is no technical bulletin regarding this issue. Does anybody have the Skoda bulletin number or any further information I can go back to Skoda UK / The dealership with?

Utter rubbish. Many owners have taken their cars back for remedy including myself. My MkII did it to a slight extent but the MkIII was worse until fixed. 

Had front door seals changed by the dealer 2 years ago, not happened since. Imagine what happens when all that water freezes during the winter months!

The problem may have been addressed in the FL models. My 2014 vRS always had water collecting under the door on front doors, but only on my drive which had a slight downward incline. On flat surfaces not much of an issue at all.

 

Having had the FL vRS for 2 weeks now and numerous days of rain in that time, I still haven't experienced any water collection under the doors.

The issue / fault is not collecting 'under doors', but in doors and you need to be on a slope and opening the doors for it to exit the said doors.

ie to drain.

My drive slopes slightly, so the nose of the car is higher than the boot. I too get the dribble of water in the morning after rain. Now that I know this has been addressed by people under the warranty, when I book the next service I will get them to fix it.... and will demand it is done under the warranty..
