Car Reliability Surveys

Featured Replies

Often on this forum it has been stated on how reliable Skoda are and pointing to the JD Powers survey. My experience was anything but reliable so always took these surveys with a pinch of salt.

Then reading an article today and Skoda wasn't even mentioned in the top 10 (Whatcar) so did a search for other surveys and again Skoda didn't list in the top 10, in fact highest rated was 42 out of 100 by car. Others again show more variations.

Just how much faith can you put in these surveys when they show such large variations?

Does J D Power operate outside the North American market?.

I seem to recall it’s about satisfaction with their choice....not sure about longer term reliability.

@Ryeman Yes, they do and based on reliability too.

The study, now in its third year, measures problems experienced during the past 12 months by original owners of vehicles in the UK after 12-36 months of ownership. The study examines 177 problem symptoms across eight categories: vehicle exterior; driving experience; features/controls/displays (FCD); audio/communication/entertainment/navigation (ACEN); seats; heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC); vehicle interior; and engine and transmission. Overall dependability is determined by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100), with a lower score reflecting higher quality.

Was this not different to the driver satisfaction surveys?

Reliability = Alfa in the top ten :o

Year after year on Briskoda there will be posts on how well Skoda or Skoda models do on JD Power,What Car,  Which, Auto express etc.

When asked on the biggest Skoda Forum how many respond to the Survey's there never seem that  many that admit to it, or bother saying they did.

@Headinawayoffski cheers. Just had a read of them and some of what you posted makes sense but still leaves big gaps in how they arrive at their ratings.

Seems it might sometimes be to do with who the best advertising contract is with, and some seem to be pure fiction where the 4 brands from the same motor group all use the same components / drivetrains yet have very different reliability supposedly.

How the likes of MG do well is a strange one. So few vehicles first registered / sold and yet satisfied owners with trouble free vehicles.

Seems the same with other low volume sellers sometimes.

Diesels although expensive new,  are economical and go reliably for ever ...........right?

An investment.........right?.
