Throttle sensor?????

Featured Replies

On my way home tonight I broke down, aaahhhhh. I have an Octavia rs 51 plate. The car starts and idles but will not rev., hence not drive. The epc light has come on , on the dash board. I called out the AA who after a long series of head scratching said it might be one of my brake lights has failed ?????? we checked and they were working. After several phone calls he linked the car to the computer and checked the throttle, it read 4.7% and when depressed did not change so it now became the throttle sensor that had gone. After being tow trucked home I phoned Skoda to find how much this was going to cost, only to be told there is no such thing. Any ideas anyone. Please.

The car is DBW - Drive by wire. There perhaps may not be a throttle sensor as such but the throttle pedal will be connected to a potentiometer.

I'm not suggesting that it is your problem though - did you get the code?

Will either be the throttle body or more than likely the accelerator pedal.

Hi thanks for the reply, did not see the code but there were about five faults up according to the AA man but I have no idea what they were.

Will either be the throttle body or more than likely the accelerator pedal.
Is that the accelerator pedal with electronic module at circa

Stu will be up with the prices, we have been conferring on MSN.

Wonder which one you want it to be Dave???

Again you should convince yourself that it is the fault and that the part numbers above are correct for your car - they are intended only as a guide.

i have a similar problem, with my 2002 fabia 1.4mpi if i hit the gas i can only reach 4500 rps, the EPC warning light is on, and the vag com said :

Does any one knows the location of this sensor?

And just for the record, i check all fuses on the fuse box, all ok, then i swap with a friend the throttle body: the same problem persist, the accelerator pedal: the same problem persist, the vehicle voltage control unit: the same problem persist.

I`m running out of options, any help will be appreciated.

I think there are two sensors (potentiometers) in a unit near the top of the pedal, and they're both set to read a slightly different value to each other. The ECU checks that both sensors change in line with each other when the pedal is pressed, and if that changes the car can work out which has failed and carry on using the other but will run on an emergency programme. I don't think the sensors themselves are individually replaceable because of the fine comparisons needed between the two

There must be a way around this continuing problem of membership, does not seem fair to those who support the site, and those who just abuse the site?

Is it actually a problem though, and does it constitute abuse?

When I first arrived here I didn't know what to expect as car forums can be very hit and miss. Fortunately everyone was extremely friendly and helpful and that alone made it worth me pitching in for membership. I know that I wouldn't have joined on spec before discovering what the atmosphere was like just in case it turned out not to be the sort of place I'd like to spend time, and that would have lost the site a potential member.

There's a lot to be said for the karmic approach to running forums, as with many things in life. If you put out good vibes, you slowly get the rewards - the fact that there are so many Freedom members who didn't have to pay must count for something, if only to demonstrate new members that it's the sort of site that commands respect and is worth sticking with. At the very least you've helped to keep another Octy on the road for someone else to enjoy further down the line, and maybe they'll show up and join in the future :)
