Fault with my 2011 Skoda Fabia 1.6 TDI DPF SE

Hi,

 

I bought my car less than 3 months ago and last night when I drove 5 min down the road the glowplug light started to flash with the engine light on. the car went into limp mode after that. I have had the DPF light come on the other day and it normally clears within the day but this time it didn't. I usually give it a good blast on the motorway and that clears it keeping the revs high. I have heard bad things about DPF filters blocking etc.  I do mix of driving motorways and town driving.  Going back to when i bought the vehicle i had to return the car within 5 few days as fumes were coming through the dashboard turns out one of the mechanics took out a injector to try on another vehicle to test and replaced it with the faulty one which caused diesel to leak through the injector! They sorted it out within a few days booked it into a garage to get the injector replaced and did a full diagnostics to make sure there were no other faults etc. I'm wondering if this could of caused some issue with the EGR valve or DPF filter etc .  Because a month later the DPF filter light came on but after a good blast it cleared. I got 3 months warranty which runs out on the 16th this month, my Partner will be speaking to them today to get this sorted hopefully under warranty!

Has this happened to anybody else and would the injector leaking cause problems with the DPF filter or EGR valve etc?

These cars are known for these issues but if you do city driving and its less than 5 miles this means the engine will be trying to warm up and therefore rev higher at idle. Diesels like to be hot to run efficiently, reason for diesels being bad city cars as they can never get up to a good running temperature. A good blast will clear the DPF but it will only come back on again if you go back to city driving. Try to avoid short journeys, drive it longer if it means it gets warm. 

 

Also to help others help you whats the cars millage and has it been services regularly, do you use supermarket diesel and what percentage of city to motorway driving do you do? I found mine ran lumpy and I got glow plug lights and DPF lights when on supermarket stuff but now on shell I find it runs smoother and I havent had an issue. 

 

Also if the cars had 'The Fix' then you should have a 2 year warranty on parts like the EGR. You can find out if its been done through the garage or if there is a new sticker in the spare wheel tub. It will say something regarding EA189. Hope you get it resolved.

the cars mileage is 70k it has full service history I bought the car from a dealership when it had 67k about 3 months ago, I tend to use Cosco diesel with adblue, but now and again i do pop to Asda to fuel up. I do 50/50 i do allot of weekend motorway driving but through the week its shorter journeys. My partner said he spoke to the warranty company this morning and they told us to book it into the nearest garage and they will deal with them direct. Fingers crossed we can get this sorted, I'm glad its under warranty but worried they may turn around and its not covered under warranty.

The 1.6tdi cr shouldn't use Adblue? These cars aren't equipped with such device.

Very few trucks used AdBlue in 2011, never mind Cars! PLUS you never buy Diesel with AdBlue mixture as DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid)- is injected into the Exhaust not the combustion system.

 

Perhaps this is a Dacia? So ahead of the game those Romanians...........

Not on Fabia diesels,  but actually back before Euro 5 in 2009 there were Citroen & Peugeot that had a PDF Fluid in tanks underneath that were filled up when in for Servicing.

I seem to remember there was an Audi with the same system.   Someone maybe can confirm, or knows about the vehicles and the system.

It was not Ad-blue i know that.

I have just had major failure of my Fabia Monte Carlo. No issues at all before I had the NOX emission remap in Dec 17, had a number of issues with the car over revving to it all to come to a head today where the turbo has blown and full engine failure. No indication of this previous to it happening today. I have been having to do a DPF regen every 2 weeks or so. I have raised a HUGE complaint with Skoda. Has anyone else had a similar story since the NOX remap or am I one in a million.
The fact that the turbo blew, in 5th gear at 70mph on the motorway could have been FATAL.
Would be intrigued to see if there are similar stories out there to add fuel to the fire with the claim. VW’s emissions resolution is evidently causing MAJOR issues with our vehicles and need to be held accountable before somebody dies!
Would be interesting to see the list of parts that are covered under the EA189 2 year warranty and if the EGR has actually failed in my car leading to this horrendous incident today.

go onto facebook and join "The Volkswagen Diesel Customer Forum (emissions scandal).  This will tell you exactly how to go about getting your claim sorted if you check the documents section or the FAQs.  Turbos are included, in short, you will have to call the emissions helpline (not your dealership) and demand a free loan vehicle while the car is fixed.  EGR, DPF, exhaust, turbo and anything else attached will be covered.  The turbo is covered because diesel leaks into the sump during regenerations (which happen far more frequently after the emissions fix) and this consequently corrodes the turbo seals.

UPDATE:

 

Car is a write off. However it has been taken back by Skoda/Blackhorse. No acknowledgement of the fault being related to the EA189 remap, however I have not had to pay anything to resolve. They've just taken the vehicle back.

 

I've ended shelling out for a brand new car, ironically I've gone for a 1.4 TSI Golf. After Skoda gave me a the same vehicle as a courtesy car (Cunning marketing technique they have there.)

 

Skoda have washed their hands of the claim, even though I've sought advice off a number of VAG specialists who have said there is reasonable proof to say that the remap could have caused the chain reaction. (ie Fuel consumption increases because of the post conditioning of injecting Diesel at 40° past TDC in normal running. This injection diesel is required to raise the temperature of exhaust gas into the DPF catalyst in an attempt to reduce NOx. The extra Diesel gets into the engine oil sump by natural drainage through gravity, this diesel thins the Engine oil and has potential to destroy Turbo oil seals.)

 

I'm seeking legal advice but I just needed to come to a resolution, hence purchasing the new car. I'm not hoping for anything from it, just would like to know my legal stance on the situation.

Loss of power. Limp mode. Engine running rough. Many signs. You need a diagnostic tool to understand better what's wrong with it.
