Burnt valve engine rebuilt

Featured Replies

Hi unfortunately my wifes 2013 fabia vrs got a misfire at 40000 miles luckily the garage we bought it from sold it with a warranty.

The engine has been completely stripped and the problem found which was a burnt exhaust gas valve.

The engine had been completely rebuilt all new valves plugs gaskets ect.

My question is how do we prevent it happening again?

We have only had it for 3 months and only used 97/99 ron fuel.

Cant say what has been used previous to our ownership.

Thanks for any replies Rob and Sam.

The main questions to ask of your garage is :

Has the rebult CTHE engine 2012-2014 been fitted with the 4/5 oil fixes, that was a problem on some on the CAVE versions 2010-2012

Did it previously suffer oil burning issues (leading to the burnt valve?)

Has it got full service history, detailed repair log etc...

Take the car on a 'hot run', use manual gears 3/4/5 every now & then, give it some welly out of hours on a straight road, and see if it generates any further issues.

Many CTHE owners that have warranty have been refused any work or costs due to 'known' engine issue's, its a bit of a hot potatoe in the Skoda VW world.

Welcome to the forum.

Who rebuilt the engine completely?

I am surprised a Base Engine was not sourced.

So was it not just a head, gaskets, ring, scrapers, pistons, was it bearings etc,

new Oil Spray Jets, the full monty?

Getting new plugs is totally understandable, but do you have a warranty still on this car?

All you can do is start using 5w 40 Full Synthetic oil to VW 502 00 and not 5w 30 FS Long LIfe (VW502 00)

& maybe Tesco Momentum 99 or Costco Super Unleaded rather than Shell V-Power Nitro+   (Just a theory of mine.

Or buy 97 ron, ESSO, BP, Sainsbury or from where ever.

Thanks for the replies i didn't think of using different oil good call.

The warranty is not a skoda one i bought the car second hand from an indipendant garage and they have been brilliant picking the car up and sorting the engine out themselves.

For them it would have been to expensive to source another engine.

Apparently they took the engine out and went through everything.

Thanks again

Ps the car didn't burn much oil about 500ml in 2000 miles.

What is it thats no good with shell vpower lots of people say it rubbish.

Super unleaded is great,  and 99 Ron minimum is great,  but twincharger can suffer bore wash issues,  and they run rich and them lean depending on lots of things,  especially the mapping.   Shell super unleaded and momentum might have the same ethanol and detergent packages,  just Shell keeps their's secret.  So long life oil,  secret detergent package and a twincharger are not maybe the best combination.
