Well that was a bit odd - fuel tank capacity

Featured Replies

I'm used to filling up with 44-46 litres depending on how close I'm getting to zero on the range counter, but on Saturday I managed to fit over 52 litres into the tank whilst showing 20 miles to go to empty. The car was full, with 5 passengers (including my musclebound 100kg son in the back seat!) and a boot full of shopping and I will admit that it was a bit 'tail down'. But would that really allow another 7 or so litres to be squeezed in? I was on a road trip today taking my son back to Uni and the extra fuel was certainly counting, with miles covered plus range getting close to 600, when I have not managed 500 on a tank to date.

Anyone else noticed similar strange refuelling behaviours?

Not strange to 'vent' the tank. 45 litre tank capacity, 7 litres up the pipe brimming but also venting is easy enough.

You just have to take care to be using the extra fuel and not parking up where the weather / temp changes can be dangerous.

Several threads on it in this section.

I have the opposite problem with my Superb II - it's supposed to be a 60l but I only can get just over 50l into it. I never go past the first click now though.

Shortly after I had just bought my Superb II I went on holiday driving through to Belgium, Germany, Austria, France etc - and stopped to fill up in Luxembourgh (cheap - I live in Yorkshire!) and a while after triggered an engine management light although the car was running fine.  I decided to stop off at a German Skoda dealer (they saw me straight away!) and discovered it was because I'd overfilled it (sensors to protect charcoal canister which controls vapour emisions) . I was then told "Von Klick - HALTE!!!" - fortunately there was no charge.
