annual services

Featured Replies

i have now done around 4000 miles on my fabia since june 2017..not a lot you say!! ..a couple of journeys were 160 miles the rest around average 40 miles...i try to avoid short runs and take the long way round to the supermarkets...

#dont get around much any more#..the duke!

the mot will be done next week ...............do i go for an oil change?

when i got the car it had been given a short service...and when i got it home i changed the air filter, fuel filter, and cabin filter

the mileage is 82000 now and was first registered in dec 2008, sort of just over the 9 years

the air conditioning is on my list to do as it doesnt seem to be on any of the service records which were supplied

i use it mainly all the time...keeping warm of course...and cool too

do i need this maintenance on the air con...as i gather it also cleans up the system and eliminates smells... as well as the recharging

a local garage says they also put in some lubricant as part of the service for the seals..

cheers

Usually, they drain all the old cool stuff and oil, pressure test the system and then, a;; being well, refill the system, usually adding (Or perhaps offering for a few quid more) An ultraviolet dye so they can check for possible leaks in the future. The cost of this will vary depending on the "Specialist" Who is doing the job. I believe the main dealer charges in the region of £60. If the car was given a short service, did this include the oil and filter? If so, wait until the next indicated service. It should flash up on the dash display as it starts to get near, each time you start the engine so do be keeping a look at the display. Bear in mind though, shorter mileages may mean annual servicing, regardless of miles travelled.

 thanks

i think your are right there about the oil...it is a year old anyway...and with a few short journeys in there...

the display has been coming on for months saying service...i dont think it was set at the last service

so i can get that cleared as well

i have found a well recommended mot station which also does air con about 10 miles away...my friendly garage a walk away doesnt to air con but i think i will let them do the mot and service and then figure out how to get the air con done while i wait at the other place...its in an industrial complex with no option to wander around the shops or cafes etc.

thanks again

cheers

I usually do a spring oil and filter change on my cars regardless of mileage,I usually change the air filter just before MOT (but that is mileage dependant - one of our cars will never do enough miles to justify the change - so it would be every second MOT's).Our 02 Polo 1.4 usually does the lions share of mileage - so I usually do an oil and filter change on that during the autumn.

Anything to avoid working on the cars during the winter LOL - but it means cars are always available for (hopefully) summer trips etc

This is a good one that a member posted in a thread on VW508 / 509 oil.

(The nice new VW servicing expense to lower emissions and have better fuel consumption results.)

I always have use this one.

The previous one and the Owners Manual have serious typos on some oil capacities, and so do the Workshop manuals.

I found Castrol Edge,  on special offer at a large Tesco store recently... Not sure if its still available. I paid £24.50 for the requisite 4L bottle. I think the lower spec oil for some Skoda's was £22.50.

2012 MK2 Fabia vRS serviced yesterday at Ingrams Skoda in Ayr, very pleased with the service received and the way in which we were looked after.

Inspection service plus new spark plugs and pollen filter would have came in at £320, but our voucher from Skoda UK reduced that by £60. Technician happy to use VW502 00 5w40 fully synthetic oil during the service recognising our car should have been on fixed service intervals. I will now need to go buy a wee bottle of the same oil lest there be a need for a wee top up following the service, but on checking this morning all seems well so far,

I don't see why not! Thy charge about to change it and money for the parts. If you supply the oil, they will simply leave the cost off the bill. Make sure they know and make sure it is the suitable type otherwise they may refuse to use it or blame you if the car goes "POP"

I have supplied many parts for fitting, to many garages over the years... Never been refused the labour work, perhaps more due to often being "Cash" transactions that suited the owner!

I was supplying Mobil Formula 1 fully synthetic oil to the garage when having a service back in the 80s/90s.

I had one big main dealer try to tell me it was not the correct oil for my car.

I had to take in proof that this oil exceeded all the specifications required for their car.

This was in the early days of synthetic oil though.

Thanks AG Falco

The whole oil thing is new to me as I have been using Garage servicing since 2001

the charts on this thread for specs are quite comprehensive
