Snow mode

Featured Replies

Should you drive when in snow in the snow mode only or would there be occasions when it might be a good idea to apply the off road button as well.  If so, what would be added to make a snow journey safer.  In the 45min video (www.Autogefuehl.com of driving the Karoq in Finland it is not made clear one way or the other.  It would appear in the Tiguan that you can,t have both but you can in the Karoq.

There are more than 50 types of snow,  and ice and slush and ploughed and gritted roads.   When the first snow falls go drive to fresh stuff in an empty car park and see what suits you.  Then try slopes and cambers,  deep snow,  frozen snow,  thawing snow.   The car gives you choices,  the tyres make a difference.   The OEM tyres the cars arrive in the UK with are crap in almost no snow and makes a mockery of the electronic assistance in proper winter conditions.   Most useful function is Traction Control OFF.

I don't recognize OEM tyres are crap in almost no snow bit! In South Yorks in 2010 the snow was as bad as it could have been and my Octy 4x4 coped very well, then when the beast from the east came in March I had to get to A&E at Mansfield at around midnight on snowed up roads, returning at 3am after clearing another 6 inch or more off the car this time a Octy Scout DSG on original tyres again no prob. May be more to do with how it's driven.

Good answer from Gomezz.  I don't need a lecture on snow types having lived in Northern Europe.  The question was, in the Karoq which has an off road mode and a Snow mode do you combine both to allow hill decent or leave it in snow mode only.  Only one more attempt is allowed.

Gomezz, what was the OEM tyres that the Octavia Scout came on, anything like crap from Bridgestone?

Offroad Mode is for use on non-paved roads at speeds up to 30km/h.

So if it's snowing, and you're off road then select both Offroad and Snow Mode.

If it's snowing, and you're on a regular paved road, then just select Snow Mode.

So if it's snowing, and you're off road then select both Offroad and Snow Mode. The functions in Snow Mode are already included in the Off Road, so no need to add it when off road.

If it's snowing, and you're on a regular paved road, then just select Snow Mode. The Snow Mode only really helps if there is enough snow that it impedes normal driving. On plowed roads and slippery conditions, Standard is OK, just drive according to conditions.

Don't forget that the real limit to adhesion is the tyres - none of the "Modes" alter the ability of the tyres to grip the road.
