Oh no, I hear you groan - not another tyre post !

 

Can someone explain to me if it's important to get tyres for my VRS (170) with a XL rating as this seems to limit your choice.

 

I know it's down to personal choice which make, but any real world experiences with this car welcome.

I’ve only ever gone XL.... I reckon without the xl tyres you’ll notice it when you’re pressing on in the corners. Personally, I wouldn’t go without them, but then again, it may be alright. 

I don't know why you want XL tyres. They are not standard surely?

I did use XL tyres, Barum, on a Mark 2 Octavia diesel when standard load Barum were not available from my supplier. They were fine and I could not tell any difference.

@gregoir, XL tyres are OEM fitment on plenty of cars with low profile tyres.

 

A Mk2 Fabia vRS 1.4 TSI 180ps with 205/40 R17 that got Dunlop Sport Max had tyres which were XL and if it was Continental or Pirelli tyres they were / are reinforced sidewalls 

so actually just as XL.

If owners complained of Pulling to the left with Dunlop or Continental tyres and the Dealers could not or could not be bothered getting the factory alignment sorted 

then Skoda UK approved fitting the crap Pirelli Zero Nero 205/40 R 17 tyres as they disguised the pulling to the left.

'Reinforced' winter tyres. 

But that does not mean a pothole might not wreck them.

That is a bulge just beside 'reinforced'.

"XL" -> "eXtra Load". They are intended for vehicles that are usually heavily laden rather than those which are driven fast one up.

Funnily the. Xl tyres come in performance type tyres with higher speed ratings as well and not just commercial/ eco type tyres. Speed rated like  V ZR and fitted on Fabias.    Some might drive fast one up then later 5 up. Eg taxis, police cars or just cars.
