  • Also, if you live in Liverpool or the surrounding areas and want to insure either VRS that's been breathed on... forget it!! I was told, nah... "we don't insure modified cars in Liverpool" when I pho

  • Thanks Lee. We'll be in touch shortly. Friday afternoons are busy but we'll do all we can to deal with your quote request quickly.

They cleared £100 off Adrian Flux's quote for me.

i'm already with Chris Knott as always getting a cracking quote from them, have to say though, they completely obliterated the quotes the missus had for her Vauxhall Corsa too - knocked over £120 off (and I got a £10 voucher for recommending her!) :) good stuff!

They refused to quote me on a modified fabia vrs because I'm "under 22" - they mentioned this after wasting 10 minutes of my time after i told them it was modified at the start of the conversation, and my age about 1 minute in. Looks like I'll be going with A Flux :)

Just made a call to Chris Knott (who I already have insurance with) regarding the potential of replacing my diff with an LSD when it finally packs in. Apparently my insurer (who I believe is Hastings) only load premiums for modifications that increase the BHP. Fantastic :)

If anyone from CK still reads this..

Can I just ask why some of your quotation staff insist that I must know certain details of how much has been paid out when I have said more than once I do not. It has irritated me enough that I've just given up getting a quote and told the phone advisor this because I can't be bothered dealing with it.

SWMBO is insured with you and from her dealings your company seems a perfectly good company to deal with, so why the very variable service levels?

Hi

Just approximates are needed, e.g. £1000, £10,000, just so that insurers know how much dameage was caused.

I did tell him it was a write off, and he insisted i gave him a value. I'm not asked for a figure from other insurers.

Regardless of the merits of asking for the amount, I consider the member of staff's insistence and lack of ability to convey that he only wanted a very rough guess as rude and requiring training or removal from customer facing roles.

Add to that, that should I have plucked a figure out of the air, then it was found to be inaccurate the insurance company could have played whatever games they fancied with me.

Sorry to hear that though as i've posted elsewhere on here today, our feedback is usally very positive when viewing the other fourms we are linked to (150+!).

Hi to all!

I would just like to introduce myself & our company following our relaunch of our affiliation to this forum with our specialised car insurance scheme.

Chris Knott Insurance - http://www.chrisknott.co.uk - have been involved with car clubs for over 20 years so hopefully we'll understand your needs & requirements!

The scheme starts for ages 22 and over for Comprehensive cover, & 19 and over for TPF&T cover, and you must have at least 1 year's NCB (unless you have NCB on a second car or a company car letter to state at least 1 year's claim free driving).

All drivers must have held a full UK licence for at least 1 year, and to insure a 'performance' car, there must be at least 1 years experience of driving that, or similar performance cars. Unfortunately, the scheme is not competitive on all M - Manchester, L - Liverpool, OL - Oldham & SK1-12 - Stockport postcodes and excludes Northern Ireland.

We consistently have a very high renewal retention rate meaning that people renew with us because of our constantly competitive insurance premiums & experienced, reliable customer service. That is why we can promote this insurance scheme knowing that we are in it for the long term.

I'll view the site regularly and try to answer any queries that you have also.

In the meantime, please feel free to call the New Business Team when you receive your renewal through. A dedicated team, with years of experience, is waiting for your call!

(I personally don't do the quotes).

0800 917 2274 or 01580 752961 & please don't forget to quote 'reference 638 - BRISKODA '!

I am slightly annoyed by this as I live in Macclesfield, which is in Cheshire and about 10 miles from Stockport, on an estate with an exceptionally low crime rate. I am inclined to think that it is a little unfair to paint all SK postcodes with the same brush (I'm SK10). Is there any movement on this? My renewal is coming up fairly soon . . .

Unfortunately it's all to do with claims statistics.

An inordinately high number of claims come from these postcodes, simple as that. It's not a case of a few points higher but a much greater percentage than the norm.

The insurers did actually tinker with individual postcodes but it didn't work sadly. I suppose 'once bitten, twice shy'.

The scheme would just not exist if the insurers included these postcodes because of the losses that these have historically caused.

I found this on another forum though it's specifically written about Greater Manchester. It was written by a member of the Police Force –

"I can appreciate that it's your driving record you are referring to, but I am more than well aware that the areas CK won't cover are generally those areas that are suffering horrendously with fraudulent claims and also are areas of high car thefts.

I quote:

QUOTE People in Manchester were more likely than anywhere else to have their cars broken into, with 25 victims for every thousand people, according to the figures.

Motorists in the city were also more likely than almost anywhere else to have their cars stolen, with nine victims for every thousand people.

The latest available Home Office figures used by the insurance company suggest Manchester was the worst area in the country for thefts from vehicles last year.

Motorists in the city suffered 11,241 thefts from vehicles in the 12 months to April, 2007 - up nine per cent on the previous year, which represent 25 victims out of every thousand people.

In Salford, there were 4,618 thefts from vehicles, or 24 out of every thousand people in the local population.

The worst area in London was Islington with 20 victims per thousand people.

Greater Manchester as a whole suffered 39,104 thefts from vehicles, up nine per cent on the year before, compared to 12,806 in Merseyside.

In the Metropolitan area, there were 91,931 thefts from cars although this figure represents 12 in every thousand people there - half that in Manchester.

In Greater Manchester, 14,872 cars were stolen, which represents six out of every thousand people. The total number stolen fell 12 per cent compared to the previous year.

The Home Office figures show 3,928 cars were stolen in Manchester during the period.

In Salford, there were 1,709 cars stolen or eight out of every thousand people compared to four in Bury, Stockport and Wigan. It was six in Liverpool.

On average, 3 out of every thousand people were victims of car theft in Lancashire and Cheshire. Five out of every thousand people had their car taken in The Metropolitan Police area. The national average was four victims per thousand people."

Thank you for the reply, although the bit I've highlighted above shows my point . . .

The insurers did tinker with individual postcodes but it didn't work. It's a pain to us as well but I can't see them budging. I suppose once bitten, twice shy?

That's a pity as it would have been good to support a site sponsor, but thank you for the information anyway.:)

I'm really surprised to say CK are losing my custom in a couple of weeks time to Chaucer Direct. Wifey's likely to go the same way too. I suspect an at-fault total loss of my HOT Aero in Feb bad weather had a lot to do with it

GazEDIT: Stayed with CK as there's an anomaly on a year-old claim, which means my renewal should be adjusted once the claim is cancelled, and my NCD not be adversely affected. G.

Do they compete well against Admiral multicar type insurance?

Wife has a fabia DSG and I am ordering a Superb estate, but renewal dates will be staggered...

Admiral will bring into line, but ultimately want a good price with a small excess!

As an example, within the last month we have quoted a member from another club for all 7 of his cars (some were classics). Admiral wanted £2150 under a multi-car policy. We quoted them individually for a total of £1650 - with one insurer. A saving of £500!!

Sadley having had 4 cars insured by ck - last year they were quoting £250 min for classics - so lost 2 of my cars.... Trebling the cost for both

This year looks like I'll have to go elsewhere as the vrs is 660 and the alfa 147 circa 400. That's with silly compulsory excess of £400 and no breakdown cover.

Hi marcevo1, if it's a true classic policy we're not restricted to £250. The minimum premium for classics is £68.90 (£65 +IPT). On the Alfa we can beat your best quote by 10% if you're a member of Alfa Romeo Owners Club (membership costs £47). Don't know if that works for you?

You're welcome to challenge us on the price for the VRS too. There may be other avenues we can explore. PM me your real name, postcode and phone number and I'll get someone to call you in the morning if you like.

That sounds better than the twaddle regarding the classics last year - price jump from £89 each - alfa 75 and merc 280sl to £250 each made me cringe. Ironically both cars travelled less than a mile each as wrapped up safe due to no time to play with them.

I'll definately try a requote via yourselves when i find time to phone

Looks like a bit of a blunder sales wise.... If I can send proof of direct lines quotes cki will match them. Seems foolish as its a pain to sort when all I have to do is press buy on the direct line website... Beat them yes maybe - match no

Shame as I was happy to give the smaller guys the work.

Just got off the phone to direct line - confusion at cki about no claims not being mirrored by direct line - not true DL are mirroring then knocking off 15% to the higher value car for a two car policy (the mirror only applies in certain circumstances - thankfully mine does). Unfortunately for cki direct line won't send this info via email for the multicar quotes singular only - cki has stated no proof - no match and wont accept putting two induvidual 8 years ncb in (ie miror) then deducting the 15%. DL has the upper hand.

Come on mr knott sharpen your pencil otherwise you're going loose loyal custom.

Shame but cash is king when it's like for like service.

Still find it amusing that it cost less to insure my 530bhp Aussie import for 20k miles a year than a Skoda with eibach springs and oz alloys :(
