DSG7 Fault

Featured Replies

I have a 12 plate octavia 1.6 tdi with the dsg7 box. Over the festive period it developed a fault, the car would not start and the dash kept flashing P/N indicating that it was still in gear {it was in park at the time, even tried neutral with the same result} I phoned skoda and they said it would need to come in and go on their diagnostics machine so, a call to the AA and off it went to the nearest dealership {100 miles away}.

After an intitial one hour diagnosis they found some broken wires under the battery and said it would take two hours of work to fix {£111.00 ph}, I said go ahead and waited for two days for an update. They sorted the broken wires which apparently took them four hours to do and I was told that it was starting almost every time but occaisionally they had to jump it even though the battery was checked and was okay, they also said that the original warning on the dash was still there {P/N}. I'm now been told that they've never came across this problem before and would like to replace the gear selector at a cost of £460 for the part and 3.5hrs of labour.

They can't say for certain that it will solve the issue and at just shy of £1000 for that one job with no certainty of it being sorted I am reluctant to give the go ahead. Has anyone come across this problem before and, could I fit a secondhand selector and is it straight forward????

from what i have read on here there is a known fault with the gear selector. can you remember what the warning was. do a search for dsg gear selector fault on here that should give you a bit of ammo to use at the dealer to see if they will do anything with the cost also try phoning Skoda uk as 4x £111 ph seems excisive

Bigtow, the display on the dash says P/N, this is displayed along the bottom where the milage usually is and only when you turn the key.
