Fabia Mk III axle stand points

Featured Replies

Can someone please tell me where would be a safe and correct point to support a fabia Mk III on axle stands? I've looked in my user manual and there is no information. Looking under the car for suitable points for putting axle stands it's not obvious to me.

There are slightly reinforced parts underneath the skirt, just behind the front wheels and just before the rear wheels. Like this pic;

There are triangular markers on the sills that point to the jacking points.

You can just make one out (under the mud) in FabiaGonzales's photo.

That's powdercoat.

Those are NOT suitable points for axle stands, those are jacking points to use with the car supplied jack when changing a flat tyre which is specifically designed to fit over the lip, but jacks the body on the floorpan on the inside edge.

High chance of bent/ torn lips and sill damage if supported with an axle stand also balancing a lip edge on a axle stand is potentially dangerous.

If you don't know how to locate safe support points suitable for use with your stands, you really should consider spending 7 euros for a session on Erwin and download the official workshop manual for your car.

Trouble is, as far as I have observed while visiting my local VW dealership, it is these 4 strong points that are used to lift a car on a lifter in workshops.

Taking the point about stability etc raised by xman, maybe try to fabricate axle stand adaptors that can straddle these 4 points and provide protection against folding any vertical folded areas.

One mistake I made with my wife's August 2015 VW Polo, was to use the "bespoke" adaptors that I made for my Audi S4, that worked okay for the 2002 Polo, but I need to be a bit more creative for this one as I've ended up missing an angle change at the front points and that has meant that I have sliced through or torn a short section of stone protection covering - very annoying - fabricating adaptors for the existing adaptors is meant to be an over the winter task!

My plan for these situations is always to only use the vertical folded welded seam as a locator, all weight being taken by the area of body just inboard and also a bit just outboard of these folded welded seams.
