Octavia VRS MK3 Alignment/Geometry Settings

Featured Replies

Hi All.

Hoping you can help. I own a 2015 VRS TDI. Just after getting an alignment done and I think they've used the wrong settings. The first is an alignment I got last year with Description SKODA OCTAVIA III RS and the one I got today is the one with description SKODA OCTAVIA III SPORT.

Although I see the toe on the recent one is on MM as opposed to Degrees - the other standard specs are different from one another - leading me to think that my car as been incorrectly adjusted.

Are either of these correct? Also - could someone post the geometry specs for the VRS as I'm going back to the place tomorrow to make sure it's all correct.

Thanking you.

A thread picked up through google said that degrees is what you have and mm is a conversion that you get with wheels tyre size.  There are some sites that have a chart that allows you to convert.  Get some paper and convert it back to see how far out it is (if it is out).

Incidentally when I had my last Scout done they tracked it with Rough Road Package.  I questioned it and when they compared it to std, Scout the settings were exactly the same so it maybe it is the right model

Thank you for the reply. I suppose what stands out to me - aside from the mm/degree difference is the rear axle where both camber and total toe degree readings are very different between settings.

this is two diff providers with two different machines.

Is is there anywhere I can get the manufacturers recommended settings ?

Update - brought it back. Manager tried to fob me off telling me you can't adjust the rear on an Octavia RS despite me showing him that his technician did just that yesterday. Then I was told to sit and wait. I said I'd rather watch my car being adjusted from outside the workshop which he didn't like. The tech wasn't much help either telling me the specs for the rear were correct until I asked him to select the RS spec on the computer as opposed to the Octavia Sport spec - again didn't like that.

I was being polite and used manners - I got grunted at. They eventually aligned it to spec but I noticed afterwards they forgot to align the steering wheel - so that's out of whack now pulling to the right if I straighten it. TBH the place had come recommended to me and I'm sure they do good work but the attitude was horrible if not intimidating. I'm considering seeing if I can get a chargeback on the credit card I used to pay as I'm hesitant to bring my car back to them and heaven forbid I asked for a refund.

Have the car going somewhere else on Tuesday to fix that problem so hopefully my car will actually drive straight and true again.

Thank you for that!

How on earth is the corghi machine used in my alignment recommending -1.75 camber for the rear wheels when yours is a far more reasonable -1.45.

Is there a diff between Irish and uk specs ? I’d love to have the same amount of green on my alignment as yourself.

Is there anyone in Ireland who is known for an excellent alignment that will include camber adjustment and proper steering wheel alignment?

One thing for example is that I’ve seen so many companies like hunter recommending the use of a special spirit level for ensuring the steering wheel is perfectly straight but never seen it used by anyone.

ive also heard it being recommended that weights are placed in the car to simulate the drivers presence before aligning - is that done anywhere ?

Ivan Kerr is the best in the business, he has a garage in carrick and a new one in bangor. Might be a bit far for you though. Theres no difference between any MK3 vRS specs. My steering wheels was aligned as part of the package as it should be in any hunter alignment, you have to to do the wheel alignment.

Thank you Johnny for the printout. I was able to track down an actual garage that uses Hunter equipment. An actual trained mechanic used it and got everything within spec. The exact same specs as on your sheet. The car now drives as it should.

Apologies for how dark it is.

The garage I used is McMillan specialist cars in Antrim. They are indy Porsche specialists but have sorted out my Octavia very well. They have a hunter machine and can do corner weighting if needed. Highly recommended!

Having just looked up McMillan they appear to know what they're on about. Even looking for project cars. That shows confidence in their ability!

What bothers me is that so many places buy this expensive equipment yet don't bother training their staff. One place nearby also has a hunter machine but they won't touch anything bar Toe.

What a waste of excellent equipment..!

Also - why are Corghi's databank optimum settings for the car so different from Hunter? Are Hunter machines kept up to date more often?

I can't get over how Corghi was insisting on -01.75 rear camber whilst Hunter was -01.45. Quite a difference.

It's still within the 'acceptable' range given on the Hunter machine by the look of it though.

yes i know Macmillan too well they fix aircooled engines too but Porsche mechanics or not, id still go to Ivan, seriously.

Glad you got it all sorted, its makes a huge difference to the ride comfort and noise levels never mind the tyre wear, £50 notes well spent.
