Buying ex fleet car

Featured Replies

Well that’s what I’ve done anyway...

i telephoned the fleet company today to ask about any tracking devices or such that I’d need to remove, their reply was it’d already been done before the car was sold

now the car doesn’t have any excessively high mileage (77k) and appears to have been looked after with no stains on carpet or seats (leather and suede)

so what else should I expect to need doing next? I assume that they drilled into something for the tracker at least....

all advice welcome

I should add it’s got a fsh with 4 interval services and brake fluid change under its belt too

I wouldn’t worry or do anything at all. I’ve had ex fleet cars before and never touched them. My vRS is an ex VWFS business lease and all I’ve done is keep the service schedule up. Mine has 102k miles on it now. The really important thing is a DSG service every 40k miles if yours is DSG. I don’t know the manual service schedule. Don’t be played by Skoda though, I have them do a £99 oil change when my car needs it and I do the rest myself with genuine parts from TPS. The rest of the ‘checks’ are worth nothing IMO. Don’t bother doing the minor/major/minor/major service thing, a £99 oil change and an air filter will do it each time and it’ll be the same service but cheaper each time. Check when the last major was done, you may want to change the fuel filter at the next service. I could change the oil myself but I’d rather not lie on my back in the cold and wet for the sake of £99 when the parts would cost me £50!

Sorry to sound thick but what’s a DSG?

ive got a trusted independent garage I choose for services and MOTs alike

Direct Shift Gearbox. If yours is an automatic it’ll be a DSG, which is a bit of a misnomer because it’s actually a manual, just an automated one :)

Automatic gearbox (technically an automated dual clutch manual box).

Mines a manual gearbox, would it still be a DSG? I’m more confused than I was to start with now :D

No, if it's a manual with a clutch pedal, it's not DSG.

Super!

Its a manual with clutch

Will this gearbox still need servicing? Or is it good for the life of the car?

I'd consider changing the gearbox oil at 120k miles, possibly before. Theoretically it's "for life", I believe....
