Spare Wheel Size?

Featured Replies

I'm looking at a spare wheel for our upcoming new 2019 Fabia Colour Edition and I'm wanting to confirm if the spare wheel is a 185/60 R15 or a 175/70 R14 as I've seen both mentioned on the current Colour Edition?

Is one classed as a space saver and the other as a full size spare?

Any confirmation would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

What size will your normal wheels/tyres be?

I haven't seen a Skoda Fabia III in the UK with a 175 / 70 14 tyre as a spare or even normal tyre.

The space saver wheel/tyre will be even smaller/narrower than the 175 / 70 14 is.

Thanks AG Falco

Eh?

I know that you can't read across marque to marque, but the Polos with 288mm front brakes get the 15" steel spare wheels quoted so I'd guess any cars with the 256mm front brakes will get that 175/70 X 14" steel wheel spare.

I don't think Skoda sell the Fabia III with the 175 / 70 14 wheels/tyres in the UK.

This size is listed on the tyre pressure sticker plate behind the fuel filler cap though.

The listing on the Configurator only lists a Temporary steel spare wheel/tyre.

It does not look like a space saver size/type.  It might be a 185 / 60 15?

When I bought my Fabia III there was a choice of two spare wheel/tyre sizes.

A space saver and a 185 / 60 15 on a Temporary steel spare wheel.

My car came with 185 / 60 15 tyres on alloy wheels.

I bought another matching Alloy wheel, so I now have 5 wheels/tyres that are all exactly the same.

But none of them are now a temporary one.

If the car you have/buy comes with 16 or 17 inch alloys then the spare will be a temporary one.

If the car you have/buy comes with 15 inch steels the spare is the same as the rest or still a temporary one?

( even more confused now? )

Thanks AG Falco

The colour edition comes with 215/45 R16 alloys on the car.

I think I'll go for a 15" spare rather than the smaller 14" ones that I've seen.

That is sensible seeing how common they are since they came with MK2 Fabia with a 195/55 R 15 tyre.

(See BRISKODA For Sales on other adverts / auction sites.)

You could even get a 16" alloy with a tyre that matches what is on the car.

You would still need to slow down while the tyre was brand new and unworn if it was brand new,

but with any spare that has a different size / weight / tyre with different tread / compound / pressure you need to be aware you have an odd one out fitted and slow down until a matching pair is on an axle.

My SEL + Colour Edition, with 215/45R16 alloys, came with a 14inch steel spare, with 175/70R14 tyre on it. Pretty sure it was /75 and not /70. I can check later when i go out though.

Edit: My spare is indeed 175/70R14

Edit2: If anyone is looking to put new tyres, highly recommend Avon ZV7, quiet, and very grippy! Relatively cheap compared to more premium tyres which i found don't really perform better for the price difference.

Will that fit in the boot?  The wider the tyre is the wider the wheel is.

My 6 inch wide 15 dia alloy wheel with the supplied tool kit is a very tight fit, height wise.

The carpet boot floor is raised up by less than 5 mm for it to fit with mine.

Thanks AG Falco

Simples, take a wheel off the car and try it in the spare tyre well.

With MK2 Fabia a 215/40 R 17 on a wheel fitted.

If you have a full car and have a puncture and need to empty the boot, get the spare on the car, then you need someplace to carry the wheel that you removed.

It might be punctured but it does not mean it gets that much smaller.

The 16 inch alloys with 215/45R16 fit fine in my boot. I would perhaps consider putting the toolkit into a satchel bag or something, the polystyrene thing is fine for the standard 14inch steel but does raise the floor a bit with anything else in there.

Thought so.

I bought a Fabia 3, 2016 model in 2015. I chose it for many reasons but a 'sensible' spare wheel was a definite buy-decision. [I had knocked back most other manufacturers with spacesavers.] I added 16" wheels (215/45R16 alloys); LED front; some packs.

Yesterday I got a rear slow puncture after all this time and my flabber was ghasted on removing the spare. It was black steel; narrow (170?) with speed limits of 50mph/80km/hr stuck on it! Brooks (Oz Skoda local had assured me the spare was NOT a spacesaver!

So my question, does any Fabia always come with a SPACESAVER spare wheel or have I been diddled? As FG says there's about an inch to spare in the spare wheel well and a 215R45R16 fits.

Maybe a Fabia that comes with 288mm front brakes? I'm not currently aware of any that do, though parts for 288mm front brakes are officially listed. The 14 inch spare barely fits around the 256mm brakes and almost certainly will not fit the 288mm ones.

I'm looking at possibly getting a 5th 17 inch alloy to match a new set i grabbed that are originally from a Skoda Rapid :D  i'll need to replace the spare too as i'm planning on upgrading the front brakes to 312mm and rears to 256mm.

That is very annoying and another reason to check the spare wheel etc at collection time when new.

My wife's 2016 model 2015 Polo 1.2TSI 110PS - and so with 288mm front brakes, came with a normal black steel 15" wheels with 185/60 tyre, yes also with a speed limit warning label on it - but not a compact or space saver, naughty Skoda.

I've a 16 x 6 1/2" steel spare now fitted with the correct 215/45/16 tyre in our new colour edition Fabia lll - had it left over from a mk4 golf gti, yes the foam insert raises the boot floor marginally but not too much. Dealer wanted £160 for one that wasn't the correct size ....
