RS245 engine oil specification

Featured Replies

Hi – My previous Octavia RS162 used the VW 504/507 specification engine oil.

Does anyone know what specification I should be putting in my new RS245? Some sites say the same spec, others say VW 508. I'm conscious that the engine in the new car is a higher spec (245hp vs 220hp).

Appreciate any and all thoughts.

Does your owners manual list the appropriate grades? If in doubt, go for the latest VW petrol specification oil. You will have to consider fixed interval servicing or variable interval.

Could be a long thread.

From what I understand from the dealer is that only applies to Tsi Vrs's fitted with the GPF ( Gasoline Particle Filter ) run on 508.00 spec oil. Mines a 19 plate, TSi 245 Petrol registered 01 March 2019.

Brand new 2.0 TSI here.

The manual does not specify the correct oil, it merely directs you to a "specialist garage". It says to prevent damage [by being low on oil] a maximum of 0.5L may be used until the next oil change, then lists for petrol VW504 VW502 VW508 and then some other ACEA numbers I don't recognize. For diesels its VW507.

Jeez.

Yep this is the same for me. Have contacted Skoda Australia for their advice.

My 2017 245 (no GPF) is supposed to be 508.

Yeh I'll buy a litre of 508 and then hope I don't need to use it

My car is the same as yours so its VW 508 then. I guess I should buy a litre and check mine.. though its only done 2700 miles from new.

I received a reply email from Skoda Australia:

Further to your enquiry, please be advised that being a petrol engine it requires engine oil that complies to the Volkswagen Group specification of VW 504 00 or VW 502 00.

The oils used in our dealerships as well as many available commercially have the combined specification of VW 504 00/VW 507 00 and can be used in all current diesel and petrol engines.

So the old spec is the one to use. Maybe it's AU specific. In any case, I'll be filing this email in the event the engine goes boom down the track. Thanks for all your replies.

That just goes to show that Skoda Australia can not tell their Ar53 from elbow any more than some at Skoda Dealerships or Customer Services in the UK.

VW 504/507 is OK and VW502 for fixed service intervals, but you really need to wonder if they know about VW 508/509.

?

Did Australia bother about the WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Testing) ?

?

Where are the Skoda in Australia built is it in Europe or do any come in from China?
