DQ380 Service Schedule

Recommended Posts

Sooo... I hear that the DQ380 box has a revised service schedule compared to the old 6 speed boxes - supposedly every 80,000 miles not 40,000 miles.

As this is something i'll be looking at in the not too distant future it made me think - would it put people off the car second hand if you saw it hadn't had the DSG done at 40,000 miles, as that is the widely understood figure, even though this isn't manufacturer advice for this particular box?

For the sake of a few hundred quid, i'm going to get it done anyway at 40,000 for my own peace of mind but it did make me think about how the change in schedule would be perceived by potential next owners.

It's what Skoda told me last time I was in for a service and asked, as they don't write the schedules in the handbooks these days.

There's a bit of chatter on Audi forums too, for S3s that got these boxes a bit earlier.

Was it Skoda or a Skoda Dealership Employee? Were they a Technician?

Audi have always said 38,000 miles in the USA and then in the UK, and written it in websites.

Some Muppets at AUDI, Skoda, VW, SEAT even say 40,000 miles for DQ200's that have no Service Schedule. But then they only do this job full time, why would they know their arse from elbow.

Get it in writing about the 80,000 miles please.

Was someone on the service desk at Sparshatts (now Richmond) in Botley, Southampton. I asked if I would need to budget for the DSG service when I got to 40,000 and they looked it up and told me the schedule said 80,000 for my car (2017 245).

I'll try emailing Skoda and see what they say for confirmation.

The service schedule that I downloaded from erWin 6 months ago states:

– Change oil, replace filter: 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DSG) 0D9 Every 60 000 km

– Oil change: dual-clutch gearbox (DSG) 0GC Every 120,000 km

As I understand it 0D9 is the old DQ250 and 0GC is the DQ381 used on the 4x4.  It doesn't mention the 0DE/DQ380, but I would be surprised if that differed from the DQ381.

Looks to reinforce the idea it's gone up to 80,000 then.

Skoda CS automated response to my query said they'll get back to me in a couple of days 🙃

What this discussion does demonstrate though, is how hugely frustrating it is that they no longer simply publish fully detailed manufacturer recommended service requirements in the owners manual.

If authorised dealers aren't to be trusted to tell you the right information, people can't be expected to be contacting Skoda UK CS just to confirm servicing requirements for their vehicles. It's a daft situation to be in really.

I bought my Octavia from them and would treat any advice they give as nothing more than the ramblings of an insane fool - no I'm NOT impressed with their "customer service" :wall:

When picked up my new car the salesman told me that these new 7-speed wet clutch DSGs are filled for lifetime so no more oil changes.

There's something similar on this page: https://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/7-speed-s-tronic-service.377074/

BTW I did a scan on my new car and VCDS shows that my gearbox is a DQ381. Interesting because I read that it's the 4WD version but my car is FWD.

Advice from salesmen less reliable that the part-time Saturday job-experience person on reception. A salesman's job is to sell not frighten customers off with a potential expense.

I couldn't agree more with comments above - get it in writing + problems caused by service schedule not being provided in owners manual.

Another contributor to the confusion is people quote from forums as if it's gospel. We all know VAG group use common mechanics and in theory should be serviced the same but the reality is they are not - maintenance appears to vary between brands. It also varies between countries. Go to a 3rd party specialist and it differs again. (Timing belt change interval probably the best example of all).

As Root says, the only reliable way of knowing the recommended schedule of your car is to get in in writing from a franchised dealer. It also has the added bonus that if the dealer did somehow get it wrong, you have evidence at hand.

If it helps my FL245 is getting 60000km service done soon and DSG service isn't part of it. Not until 120000kms they told me. I'm getting it done though for peace of mind.

I know everyone will be dying for closure on this hotly debated topic, so an update. Skoda UK Customer Services replied to me today.

Quote

I have spoken to ŠKODA Technical Team and the recommended direct shift gearbox (DSG) oil change is every 80,000 miles.

So confirming what the dealership originally told me.

What the thread has done though, is answered my question of 'do you think this would put people off' as evidently the overwhelming reaction to seeing no 40,000 mile service will probably be 'oh my god, he hasn't bothered to service it properly' anyway :D

The oil change interval on new 7 speed dsg WET clutch transmission is in Europe 120.000 km.
Experience will yet to be seen if it would be recommended to change the oil earlier.

So if I have understood this correctly

The DQ380 requires servicing every 120km (about 75k Miles)

The DQ381 (4x4 version) might be same, but Haldex needs doing every 60Km (38 k miles) regardless

Have I summarised it correctly ?
