CAVE to CTHE?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

As far as i can find out the CTHE engine is a revised version of the CAVE engine?

If that is the case am i right to assume i could acquire a bare CTHE engine and straight swap it for the CAVE engine??

It would be needing the dsg gearbox to marry up too obviously.

Really hope someone can supply a definitive answer as i've tried without success to find one.

Thanks in advance!

Yep that's correct, You can use the same DSG box it would just need coded to new engine and ecu.

Thank you Mick for posting and confirming that for me.

Does the CTHE use a different engine ecu/program to the CAVE? I assumed it was just mechanical differences so you just use the CTHE on the original control units and gearbox.

Yes the CTHE uses a different ECU / programme from a CAVE, and some CAVE engine cars that were replaced with later CAVE engines required a new ECU as the techs could not get them to run on the one that was on the car.

Valid question but as i would be replacing the CAVE with a 'bare' CTHE i was to assume that all externals, the sensors/fuel and ignition system/cooling/exhaust etc from the CAVE would be fitted to the bare CTHE requiring the original engine ECU.

Unless the CTHE head/block would give out different parameters via any or all sensors?
