Peeling Paint On Bonnet - 16 Plate Fabia 1.2 TSI SE

Featured Replies

In 2017 I bought a used approved 16 plate Skoda Fabia from a Skoda main dealership in Leeds.

A month ago what I thought was a stone chip turned into 6-inch flap of paint peeling away from the car bonnet. As the car was now out of its 3-year manufacturers warranty. I duly booked the car in with a local paint specialist to look at. They advised the top layer of paint/lacquer was not adhering to the base coat and the entire bonnet would need be stripped and re-sprayed (cost £300 inc Vat). I took photographs of before/after and contacted the garage that sold me the vehicle. They suggested I contact Skoda UK. Skoda UK has said that they are unwilling to help as a third party carried out the repair. Yes in hindsight I should have taken the car back to the Skoda dealership 35 miles way to examine.

In short - has anyone else had similar problems?

Have I any recourse as the car bonnet paint has proved not to be of merchantable quality?

Any help/suggestions most welcome.

As a side issue - at the paint specialist was a Skoda Octavia in the same colour (not so Brilliant Silver) with the same peeling paint issue. Is this a known Skoda issue?

Welcome.

£300 including VAT is quite a bargain to paint that bonnet. IMO.

There was a member with a peeling car, he was in the Irish Republic.  I could find that thread.

It was blue.

So,

?

Has the paint been tested to see if as left the factory and that is not a replacement bonnet painted?

When still valid.

Your Paint Warranty tells you to contact an Approved Repairer, that actually means a Skoda Main Dealer.

You do not contact Skoda UK Customer Services,

their employee gets the pictures, gets the warranty manager, they contact Skoda UK / Warranty Provider, and they arrange an Inspection by quilified people,

that might be a Body Shop, it might be the firm they contract.

When i was an Apprentice Sprayer i had to deal with the first of Silver peeling paint Fords.

Long time ago.
