I have a 2011 Skoda fabia VRS mk 2 and i need help with the fuse box next to the battery in the engine bay

ive got three fuses and not sure if im missing any and wether they are the correct amps

as the 10 amp one keeps blowing every couple of months

According to Skoda I should have

1 Five amp fuse

1 ten amp fuse

2 twenty five amp fuses

2 thirty amp fuses

Fuses 7 and 10 check out against published info for cars from Nov 2011 onward, both supplying the ABS control unit.

There can't be any fuses fitted in locations 8 or 9 'cos there aren't any sockets in the left hand side of each position.

Fuse 11 should have a 5 amp fuse in it, supplying something in the J519 Onboard control unit, not sure what.

Fuse 12  (bottom one in your pic) supplies "Heater element for additional air heater -Z35-" and should be a 40A fuse.  Bit surprised a petrol car has this heater but try a 40A one and see if it stops blowing.

Just gonna check earlier versions, hang on.

November 2010 to Oct 2011 is the same as far as your car goes, apart from, fuse 12 is either the 40A one for the additional heater as above, or a 5 Amp fuse for "Double clutch gearbox mechatronics -J743-"

If it was made even earlier, before Nov 2010, the 40A additional heater fuse would have been a 30A one.

So the 10amp one replace with 40 and the one above stick a 5amp or leave it blank

No.

Ah sorry, I have different numbering on the info I'm looking at!

Where your pic shows 8-13 as that row, the Skoda wiring diagram has it as 7 to 12!

See if you can see what colour the wire is coming off the bottom of that fuseholder for fuse 13 (your manual numbering).

I guess your car has DSG gearbox, and no heater fitted., so it may be a fault with the J743 mechatronic unit that is causing the problem?

Don't try a 40 Amp fuse in there.

Do try a 5 Amp one in the slot above, but not sure what that'll do.

Its a red and black one

Yes its dsg so is the mechatronics messed or is it just the fuse is too low?

the manual says electrical auxiliary heating system so not sure if its the mechatronics

The red/black wire confirms it as mechatronic related, I think.

If so it should be a 5 Amp fuse, so it is looking like a mechatronic fault, or wiring fault on the way to that unit.

Really don't think your car will have the aux heater.

No idea, sorry, might very cheap if it's a wire that's just rubbed through on something metal, might be very expensive if it isn't.  Try following that red/black wire to wherever it goes, looking for anywhere that it might be shorting to metalwork.

It would have a thicker red wire going to that fuse instead if it did, so you haven't got it.

Could it be a heater for the gearbox??

  • Author

Also if the car had a problem with mechatronics the gearbox wouldnt work in certain gears or change at wrong speeds

however on mine its fine changes on time and everything

No, there's no such heater in your car, the manual is misleading. That's on some cars, probably only diesels, and probably only as a 'cold climate pack' type option. See at the bottom of the page there's a note saying Caution! and referring to page 184, what's there?

This is what it says

Hmm, nothing about that fuse.

Follow that wire, it could be as simple as a short to chassis. Always pursue the cheapest options first, until there aren't any left.

It just goes with other wires further down so cant really tell where it goes

Time to find a friend who's an auto electrician.

No idea

Looks like there's a 25-pin connector on the top of the gearbox, try to find that and follow the wiring back from there looking for anywhere it may have got abraided against something metal.

In the engine bay ?

Yes, unless your gearbox is somewhere else...

😂tbh i dont kno much so dont even know where to start

Get it checked over by an auto-electrician, or a garage with knowledge of these cars/gearboxes.

That red/black wire goes to pin number 25 of the 25-way connector on the gearbox.
