2010 VRS Cave Engine nightmares!

Featured Replies

Hey guys & gals probably missed a post of similar somewhere in the forum ether but here we go...............

Have had an issue on & off only in auto mode that if you try to kick down feels like something is holding the power back, engine management light comes on flashes loads, power kicks in then light goes out?? Have driven it in manual mode & sport mode until last night didn't get that issue?

Drive home last night lost power had flashing engine management light come on followed by EPC warning light & instant limp mode kicked in, engine management light went out again but EPC has stayed on & still stuck in limp, any ideas if this is an electrical sensor or spark gremlin or am I looking at the worst ie:- new turbo, fecked piston rings or new cylinders? Will note up until last night the car has always started perfectly & driven flawlessly like the freight train it is giving power when you need it.

Cheers i will nervously await any advice/tips.

Maybe not much wrong.

So first off best check the Spark Plugs are all good, that is all 4.When were they last replaced?

You could check or have a check done for Fault Codes, but the misfires if you have them might not be logged.

You need it out of limp mode anyway.

How many miles on your car,

is it all standard,

any updates under warranty,

breather mod or software work ever done,

original engine etc etc ?

Has the water pump / supercharger magnetic clutch ever been replaced?

What you described can be the water pump and now the turbo is disabled.

EDIT,

Did the plugs get changed, and have you remapped it?

Eek information overload!

Service wise all I know is its first 5yrs had main dealer service then over the next few years only had a few services as only covered about 6k in 4yrs until i purchased it & sales place apparently had it serviced plus new MOT.

Have heard about poss spark/ignition pack issues yet to have checked & no idea if or when they were last replaced, as far as i am aware the car is standard apart from me upgrading the bonnet stay catch that had snapped & my green dice valve caps. As far as i am aware its the original CAVE engine & currently has 73k on it.

No idea i'm afraid on water pump how would i even know its been replaced? When it first started having the flashing engine management light I took it to a local VAG specialist who plugged it in with their main dealer system spewed out 6 errors all seeming random:-

2 x electric relay faults

1 x oxygen sensor

1 x fuel sensor

1x loss of compression in cylinder 3

1 x random loss of compression in all cylinders (Love the random part!)

Never bothered having it remapped as of yet which from the current situation probably a good thing, got to try limp it to my mechanic after work if it will fire up & limp mode it up the road if it can make it up the hill, they are going to plug it in tomorrow hopefully comes up with something relevant to have a look at.

So if no Full Service History for that 3 or 5 years with invoices (Dealer Servicing counts for nothing with Twinchargers IMO) or any since, parts invoices etc,

best get the Fault Codes read again.

Get the 4 new spark plugs in, even if not needed.

Then at least you rule them out.

?

How many miles has your car covered?

EDIT,  i see now 73,000.

If it has not had a new water pump i will be surprised if one not needed.

Its got service history just in only had done every other year for the last 4yrs same time as it only covered a few 1000k, has had flawless MOT's to date not that it means much, i will pass all your advice on to my guy good to have things to look into thats for sure.

Keeping my hopes up its not another twin charge going to the scraper!

I hope not.

But do not let anyone that does not know 1.4 TSI / TFSI Twinchargers mess with it.

Too many say we do 1.4 TSI's all the time yet know jack sh!t about them.

Engine update!

Next lot of error codes cleared all similar issues to last lot, compression test done all cylinders perfect, touch wood spark plugs changed to set of platinum NGK 3 days in all perfect so far if anything a bit more poke!

From the state of my old plugs mechanic doubted they had ever been changed as orig VW ones!!!!

Now the joy of sorting out my next issue of a un-repairable split rim............£260.44 just for the rim from Skoda, used ones on Ebay look a bit sketchy???

😓

There were suitable rims for sale on here a few days back.  Or put up a wanted ad. Paisley freight for a wheel courier.
