Correct oil for a 17 plate Fabia tsi

Featured Replies

I am taking delivery of my  2017 ( 30/6/2017) Fabia TSI 110 estate this coming Friday. My query today concerns the oil that should be used in the sump. I  was having Castrol Edge5w/30 put in in my current car,  an October 2013 Fabia tsi 85when it wa being serviced annually s serviced by my independent and it ran really well with no problems at all. Nor did it ever need  topping up. I did ask the Skoda dealership this question and the salesperson said it was the same oil as my present car. I cant see make of oil  being an issue at all.  I know it  must be longlife  because the car is on variable servicing and I am going to keep it on variable at least to start with.   It is only the viscosity I am asking about. 5w/30 seems  right to me for the UK given our temperatures or maybe 0w/30?  I live in on the Wirral which is pretty clement compared with neighbouring North Wales and  Lancashire.

I do between 5000 and 6000 miles a year and this is quite mixed motoring. I have no fixed commute as I am retired. Some of my driving is urban but not in a city like LIverpool or Chester, it is in small towns on the Wirral. I do open road motoring as well including several   trips a year into North Wales and into Shropshire to meet up with my nephew also my self catering holiday somewhere in the UK.  These trips involve motorway and dual carriageway travel and long periods in 5th gear at 60 to 70 mph. The new car has a 6 speed gearbox so decent speeds will mean fewer revs so longer life for the oil etc.  I do know how the sensors work with variable servicing.

          Thanks in advance.

VW Group / Skoda recommended is VW 504 / 507, so commonly 5w 30 FS.  used for fixed or variable servicing.

You can use 0w 30 FS III as long as VW 504 if you want.

You can use VW502 so 5w 40 FS for Fixed Servicing if you want.

From 2018 on they leave the factory with VW 508 / 509.  So 0w 20 FS IV.     They can still use VW504 /507.

The change to VW 508 /509 was so that come WLTP / RDE they could achieve the figures they required.

This is the TSI's, & TSI's with GPF's.

I would change to Fixed servicing with this annual mileage.

Thanks AG Falco

This is to AG Falco.  Sorry for the delay in replying, getting work done at home and not checking Briskoda.  I appreciate your advice about servicing and it was changed by the dealer to fixed servicing last Friday: the day I collected  the car. It means the next  car service will now  be due sooner but thats unavoidable and is a small price to pay for the state of the engine oil and engine longevity. Your advice was very helpful to me and helped me decide that fixed servicing was the right way forward  for me. I am now   reading up on  the  many additional features of the SEL over the SE spec and may well do a different  post on that subject. Thanks again.
