Corrosion warranty - periodic checks?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I've recently purchased a 2016 Rapid Spaceback not from a Skoda dealer but it does come with a full Skoda dealer service history. I don't have an issue with any corrosion but was advised by a friend that in order for the 12 year corrosion warranty to remain valid some periodic inspections have to be done (at my expense, but worth it I would have thought for the 12 year protection).

I've rang my local Skoda dealer who didn't have a clue and Skoda UK didn't seem much better either saying it should probably be part of it's annual servicing but couldn't confirm either way.

Has anyone any experience of this?

Welcome.

When there were service books over 8 years ago the Service Interval was Minor & Major year about and the Major was called an 'Inspection Service',

and every 2 years at this service the cars body and glass was to be inspected and put in the page after the Service Page,

When the Service Book went it was to be done on the Hand Held Device.

Damage recorded, or poor repairs, rust / corrosion etc.

For a few years now Skoda UK have been rejecting Warranty Claims on Paint & Corrosion issues.

Saying that there was no Record of Periodic Inspections.

**Plenty threads on this forum with Skoda UK telling members no record of Inspections of the body, yet cars have FMDSH, so that is Dealership

staff not correctly carrying out Services and Inspecting Bodywork.

That is why owners should put in a clean car, or if letting it get a Free Wash and Vacuum, the dealers should wash the car before a service and inspection,

or inspect finally after service and car washed.**

So the Skoda Fixed Service Menu says 'Bodywork and Glass inspection',  Skoda knows who and where serviced cars and never inspected.

Also,

The Warranty does not mention the need for Main Dealer Inspections or Periodic Inspections, but some Main Dealers will quote for those not have Main Dealer Servicing to do an Inspection.

In other words, Ar53 and elbow comes to mind.

The first two Toledo/Rapids I had had the typical water in the door retention problem. This was fixed with butchery on the door seals and later models did not have this problem. Always wondered if early cars (2012/13) now have corrosion problems on the bottom of the doors?

Thanks for the replies - seems as though by getting rid of service books, Skoda have confused everyone including themselves about a lot of things!

It also seems as though the cynic in me would think it could be a ploy to wriggle out of making good on any claims re corrosion coming through...……..

I have to say I'm disappointed to say the least - I don't really think I should have to pay for any further inspections of the bodywork for the warranty to remain valid; however I would be prepared to pay a reasonable fee for the protection it would give. The very least of all I would expect it to be clear how you go about it!!!!

As far as I'm concerned, providing the car is set to fixed service intervals (10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever is reached first) and you use a Skoda main dealer you are getting the bodywork inspection...

Given that Skoda UK themselves haven't a clue, they've removed all references to the inspection requirement (the service book) and the 12 year anti-perforation warranty T&C's make no reference to the requirement of the need for annual inspections, if I have another cause for a genuine claim which they refuse, I'll have my day in court.

Sounds like you'd have a good case there but it implies to me that you've probably only got the 12 year corrosion warranty provided you fork out for a dealer service every year. I think I'm going to just have to take my chances, shame...………….

Yes unfortunately I think you're right.

Saying that, I found main dealers pricing to be pretty close to the good trusted independents, at least when it comes to basic servicing...

It wasn't that long ago that Skoda offered an oil and oil filter change for vehicles over 3 years old for £99.
