Hopefully @Wino doesn't see this post - especially after what he wrote yesterday!

He knows me too well. My middle name is "Peacock" after the bird before someone suggests I'm lacking in the manhood department which SWMBO is happy with when I kick this Corona Virus. Best friend is in Leicester tonight at a Chinese restaurant and knowing him (he is so cheeky) he will probably ask for a pint of Corona Beer. Happy 62nd Birthday Alan.

Average speed's not so clever ?

Especially if you drink the 22 gallons of beer before attempting to walk the 900 miles. :D

Not BR like AG, I came in later in the day. But from my days on the track ,hearing tales of BR, how many miles did the average rail worker ( and train driver ) get to the gallon in BR days . Possibly more like the blokes in parts of the EU who got thousands of miles to a galleon .( Typo intended )

I will be a bit gutted when the lockdown is over because the idiots will be let out to crash on the motorway like before and my commute will go from 37-39 minutes to as much as 75 minutes because the idiot brigade can't drive in a straight line without hitting something. Also with the brake testing brigade in the outside lane slowing everyone down due to the domino effect my average mpg will fall from over 40mpg to about 37mpg costing me more money. Got 44mpg on the commute tonight and should get over 600 miles on this tank. Folks stay safe and stay off the motorway because it's nice and quiet and zero stress at the moment.

SHY- lots of years ago I drove a standard transit at work, and regularly drove down the southern section of the M1 at the weekend ,having to contend with folks travelling to visit relatives in the Home counties in one direction and on the way back ,those travelling to places like Bradford for the weekend. Similar problem. L3 chocker with RR ,L2 chocker with MLM . I often moved into L1 and threatened to undertake the 50mph blue vans/MB . Suddenly they'd realise I was there and they shot away to decide that at 50, best place was L1.

Admittedly ,these days I only head out for "essential stuff2, like Swimbo's ciggie supply . ( this is definitely essential . )But the roads are definitely quieter. No more all myopically defunct drivers in mummy wagons.

You have no idea how nice it is to look in the rear view mirror and see only one vehicle behind you. The blind spot monitoring mirrors are also working a lot less than usual at the moment.

I agree- no more driving up to a mini island to wonder if bimbo has realised that person on the island has right of way.

Another 44mpg commute tonight on target for 639 miles. That would be 44mpg for the 66 litre tank (14.5 gallons).

Surely people aren't so brazen as to attempt to overtake the beast? 🏎️

Only on the motorway John. I did notice quite a lot more traffic tonight including 3 pick-up truck drivers doing at least 90mph in the outside lane bullying smaller vehicles (company car drivers of course think they own the road).:notme:

Back on MPG . Ten years ago I rehomed a male Cairn Terror. He averaged two lamposts per pee. When he passed over I rehomed a lady Cairn. Her MPG was similar. Now I own a JRT cross and it's a squirt per lampost.

Clearly pacing himself (assuming he's a lad), girl's like to squat of course. Back on topic haven't put any fuel in my car since 5th April and pump prices should be a bit lower by the time it needs some liquid gold in the tank.

Time to revive this thread specially created for Briskoda's best sipper of petrol and now diesel. Having given myself the challenge of extracting 1,000 miles from a 66 litre of oil from the black pump made a good start with 107 miles in the 150PS Superb now having covered 6,360 miles and the target figure I'm aiming for is 7,253 which requires averaging 70mpg over 14.5 gallons which would give 1,015 miles or some 1,600km. Another 3 commutes then it will be parked up for 3 weeks so may take until early December to achieve the target distance. Regular weekly updates to come to see how I get on.:) Can't be that difficult in a 1,500kg large 5 seat car surely.:blush

This is all well and good, But I was out at the weekend and managed to average 47 miles to a banana.

Best tonight so far after 75,65,72,68 now 78mpg. After 161 miles driven only 880 miles left in the tank giving 1,041 mile range. Perhaps one day an EV will travel 1,000 miles on a 5 minute charge.:blush

I am close to despair at the thought of 3 weeks without an MPG update, its very selfish & uncharitable but I find myself hoping that lightning strikes again & your 3rd holiday is cancelled.

Could you not drive to your holiday & give us daily updates?

Hi Shy, you said you liked a challenge and I remembered this thread from the archives.

You and your family have a good break.

Have a good holiday and I hope the tests are negative.

What happens if there is a +ve result? Will you be prevented from travelling or is it a case of self confinement during and after the holiday?

No symptons so I don't expect anything other than good news. Irony is that I had to pay £84 privately for each test as you can only get a free NHS test if you have symptons and I'm not dishonest  to claim we have symptons to save myself £168.

Why do you need the tests though?

Remember I am not in the UK so not up to date with the current travel situations.

While I am on the subject what destinations are currently accepted for travel from/to the UK?

I have December free and was going to return to the UK if the quarantine was one week but 2 weeks is too much so I am looking at other destinations to either fly or drive to, not looking for a beach/hôtel holiday.

Private tests have always been €20-30 here for those who have to pay, most people are covered 100% under l'Assurance Maladie and their Mutuelle protection.
