Hi I own a skoda fabia vrs with the CAVE ENGINE . owned vehicle for 3 years and generally it has been a good car.

 

Approx 15 months ago I had cylinder 2 miss fire which turned out to be melted piston.

 

Work was under taken at a garage. Piston replaced along with injector head check timing chains etc.

 

Had the car back with no apparent faults. However when it went in for mot it failed on emissions. Overly high. No apparent faults found however mot station said the cat has failed due to a fuelling issue. Replacement genuine cat fitted. But still no difference.

 

Since then a friend who works at the main dealer ship had it in for diagnostics.

 

No apparent faults to be seen. But they did a software update checked timing and still same issue.

 

Car starts and drives fine. Difficult to tell if it smells fuelly.

 

Only thing I've noticed but can't really remember if it's always been like that is when it idles hot or cold the revs sit at approx 1050rpm

 

Any help would be great.

Welcome.   The idle is too high, that should drop within about 40 seconds of starting.

 

Do you have a standard air intake, good plugs, super unleaded and now running the standard software that he installed, could it have had a remap when you got it?

 

Is it failed with?

Exhaust hydrocarbon content after 2nd fast idle exceeds default limits (8.2.1.2 (b)) 

 

Fabia Mk2 vRS can fail at MOT stations and then get a retest at a Skoda Main Dealer and pass.

Got the T-Shirt,  failed emissions test and the examiner said it had a decat which it didn't,  it did have a remap though.

He had got the car in hot after getting a good blast but had it sitting 1/2 an hour before starting test.

 

In for a retest following day at Skoda dealership and a pass.

I've owned the car for about 3 years.

Stock car. 15months ago piston 2 melted.

 

Local specialist had it in replaced piston along with failed injector and chains etc.

 

Car ran good with no apparent fault. Several months later started to notice a splutter and fuel smell.

 

Went in for mot. Failed significantly on emissions.

 

Co2 high HC crazy high and lambda running super rich.

 

A friend at a dealership had it in told me it was an injector leaking along with cat. Changed but made no difference.

 

Me and a friend at a specialist garage looking at it and weve confirmed engine is fine.

 

If i disconnect the pipes like I said fumes stop emissions are spot on.

 

Discovered fuel in oil so drained 

 

After about 5 miles with all connected we have fuel in oil again

Is the friend at the dealership a Master Tech?

 

Did your car have the Breather Mod before you got it, and can they check on the system if it showed as having it and the software update.

 

Sounds like you have an injector issue if overfueling, but then the Technician is the one with all the gear and should have an idea or know the people to ask.

It had also software update. No difference

 

Has no misfires.

 

We think it's the fuel pump

Just removed fuel pump with ignition on you can see fuel seeping through piston of fuel pump

 

Which the treakles through cam cover and mixes with oil.

 

That's the theory

You obviously had a fault before you had the pistons replaced, borewash, overfueling / injectors or what ever.

Must have been. Have you or anyone seen any issues with fuel pump failing?

Pretty common that the HPFP goes on these, A good few people have had issues with them.
