Are there min and max marks on screenwash filler?

Featured Replies

      Hello,

If I fill the screenwash on my Fabia 3 up to the filler cap it seems to lose a little, it goes down to just over the top of the filter without being used. From that point it doesnt drop any more. it stays just above the top of the filter. I thought I  might have a leak but that didnt make sense because it stopped just above the filter and in my experience leaks dont stop on their own and I began to doubt that I had a leak at all. That started me thinking that, maybe, there were min and max marks. With my Fabia 2 I could fill up to the top and the level didnt drop unless it was used, there were no min and max marks  but that was then and this is a different vehicle of course.

I wasnt looking forward to having to take the wheelarch liner out to get to the reservoir so I thought a bit of reading up was probably in order before doing that. My handbook didnt mention any marks, just confirmed there  was  a sensor and the  capacities and how to fill and the warning light.  When I went on the internet however I did find a couple of generic  references to the marks.

As the level hasnt dropped over a period of a few days I am clearly  going to maintain that level and no more. I looked again under the bonnet at the filler neck  before posting this and there is a ring around it but it isnt marked at all. If there is another ring that will be much further down the pipe, out of sight without dismantling.

If the only  ring I can see is the max level why isnt it marked as such? The omission in the handbook is also puzzling. The oil and the coolant do have min and max marks so it is logical to expect them on the screenwash.

As always I look forward to my fellow Briskodians  telling me what the correct situation is.

Dip Sticks & Coolant are Min & Max and not Fill to this level.

Too little or too much an issue.

Windscreen wash if overfilled is just wasted if it spills out so simply do not put too much in.

It doesn't matter too much if screen wash is overfilled, it's only soapy water. Min level is when it runs out!! I wish all cars had a level sensor to warn you when it's getting low. My Mk1 vRS had one, but our 1.9tdi Comfort Mk1 and Mk3 SEL doesn't/didn't have one. My new Fiesta doesn't have one either.

Is it just me, why does screen wash run out on the way to work, but never on way home!  :wall:

The bottle is not marked with either min or max levels.

Some Fabia III have a Screen wash minimum warning light.

You have to have the Headlamp wash system for this though.

Keep a small spare bottle of ready mixed screen wash in the boot stops it running out.

Thanks AG Falco

You will probably find there are a few bubbles of trapped air. When you drive they may be able to escape up the filler neck and the fluid level will drop.

Certainly nothing to worry about.

One of the things I miss on my Fabia MKiii is a low sreen wash warning light that I had on my MK1 Fabia 1.9 estate

That is one thing that I like about my wife's 2015 VW Polo, there is quite a long expanse of washer fluid reservoir neck exposed so knowing if it needs filling and not over filling is so easy, my own car's system is completely hidden so it gets overfilled - which is a bit messy but okay!
